"We highly recommend this company. From first contact they were professional and very thorough with communication and execution of their services. They listened to what we were trying to achieve, made suggestions based on their experience and moved forward immediately to get the job done. The finished product of our patio, walkway and bbq pit is stellar. Itâ s more beautiful than we imagined. We couldnâ t be happier."

"We are so pleased with the results of having hired Javier Cruz and his company, Stone and Lawn Care, to install a paver walkway around our house. His response time for a consultation and quote was immediate. He was able to start the project within two weeks of our getting HOA approval. He sent a full crew the first day to dig and clear foundation and remove all tree roots, stone and dirt, and lay the weed fabric. He sent three men to lay the pavers. And one man came on the third day to sweep in and water the polymer sand. He himself came each day to inspect the work and make sure we were satisfied. The colors are a perfect blend, the patterns are so pretty, and the border is neat and definitive. We could not be happier, and are recommending him to all our friends and neighbors!"

"The owner Chris completed our project on time and our backyard looks beautiful. We are in a new house and yard. He brought a crew of 4 men with him that were respectful, professional and neatly cleaned up rocks & debris in our backyard and installed our sod. Chris worked diligently on the details of the project, the rock frame in front of the fence, a stone platform through both gates, installed drains where water pools and a sprinkler system. Chris made sure we were satisfied with the work, was professional and friendly. We will use Classic Contours Landscaping again, thank you Chris!"

Masonry questions, answered by experts

Use fire bricks for a brick pizza oven. These bricks are typically used for fireplaces and chimneys as they can withstand high temperatures from heat sources. If you attempt to use any other kind of bricks, it’s likely that this material will crack from such high heat exposure in the best case—and potentially explode and cause serious harm in the worst case.

You should clean your home’s brick once per year. This applies to exterior brick, but also to cleaning brick fireplaces. Create a homemade cleaning solution with equal parts vinegar and water. Use a soft-bristle brush to scrub the solution into the face of your brick and remove dirt, algae, and stains. Cleaning will protect brick from damage and boost your home’s curb appeal.

The best tool for drilling into brick or mortar is a rotary hammer drill which is a large hammer drill with low rotation speed and high torque. Regular drills with a hammer function are also excellent tools for drilling into brick when the diameter of the hole is 1/2 inch or less. It might be possible to drill into brick with a standard drill if you’re only drilling a very small hole, but note that masonry work will put a lot of wear on a standard drill, and the tool may not be strong enough to get through brick.

There are many things to look for when buying a brick house. Here are some of the key things you should pay close attention to.

  • Lintels: Look for cracks, holes, displacement, or corrosion

  • Mortar: Check to see if the mortar is old and crumbling, in need of repointing, or new. Also check to see if the mortar has a professional finish.

  • Walls: Check along each side of the house. If a wall is bowing outward, this indicates a severe issue such as foundation damage or that the walls are ready to fall.

  • Cracks: If there are stair step cracks in the brickwork, this indicates an unstable foundation.

Yes, as long as the cut is clean and the brick remains structurally sound, you can reuse it. Reusing brick is especially common for landscaping, edging, and small masonry repairs. Just make sure to file down any sharp edges before handling or installing it.
