"My installer, Jose, was amazing! He was so accommodating to fit my schedule in a short timeframe. Jose was professional and very knowledgeable about installing tile. He installed my tile quickly and was very clean while working. I would definitely recommend Jose for tile work. Jose is also a great handyman because he also installed my TV on the wall which was difficult to do because the wall was covered in porcelain tile. THANK YOU, JOSE!! YOU ARE AMAZING!!!"

"I hired Cransten to remodel my bathroom. It was getting old and in need of an update. They came in, replaced the floor, built a shower pan, and laid custom tile around my shower. I was impressed with how friendly and professional they were. I would definitely hire them again!"

"All of the above ratings are based on the visit by the consultant who came to my home to give an estimate for replacing my wood floors. His name is Charles. What we have in common is that I can relate to and rely on honest people with integrity. These 2 words exemplify his character, in a nutshell. We were able to come to a very reasonable agreement and that's how he got hired. I'll add another review after the work is complete!"

"Cabinet work was great. Removal of dishwasher and stove was great. Cabinetry work was good to allow me to have a freestanding stove. They did cut off the water supply for the dishwasher but I found out today that the cut-off for the dishwasher also was the same for the Fridge water supply. I ask Precision Home Improvements about this when I found out I had no water running to the Fridge. He stated: "I didn't know it ran to the fridge too so I'm not sure if u turn it on it would leak. I didn't bother checking cause I thought it was just the dishwasher not the fridge too." They did not offer to come and check it out. So I had to call someone else to come and fix this problem. Just another added cost to me. All the other work he did was good. I guess you can expect things like this to happen from time to time."

"I have been trying all weekend to put into words how impressed I am with Ashia Tile & Marble. First let me start off by saying that, I had not updated my home in 12 years. I kind of knew what I wanted, but found it hard to explain. Alvin seemed to read my mind! I reached out to Ashia Tile after reading every review on Home Advisor. I was hoping that with such great reviews and pictures of the work he performed he would not be out of my price range. I had already received several quotes from other installers, but none gave me the confidence I felt after reading how many satisfied customers Alvin and his crew had. I contacted Ashia Tile on Thursday and Alvin and Michelle were at my home by Saturday morning to measure and give me estimates. He left me tile samples and worked with me on pricing. I will tell you that his prices are fair and I promise you that you will get much more out of his team than a typical tile installer! First, I had to do nothing...and I mean nothing. They moved my furniture, tiled my floors, grouted, etc. all while I was at work. Everyday I came home excited to see how much had been done. They were done on time. I had my entire first level and fireplace tiled in 5 days. There were no delays and the quality of the work was EXCEPTIONAL! Danny and Eugene worked tirelessly on my home, they left the work area neat and clean everyday and always made sure we had a path to walk so that we could actually live in our home. Alvin and his crew provided the tile for the floor and all other materials. The only material I provided was stainless steel tile for my fireplace. Everyday Alvin called before they started work to see if I had any questions or concerns. Needless to say, I had very few. They handled everything! Words can not express how pleased I am with Ashia Tile. He was willing to make even the smallest of changes and always assured me that his goal was to make sure I was happy with the work. They truly went above and beyond! I will definitely be using their services again and recommending them to all of my friends."

Ceramic Tile questions, answered by experts

Many homeowners have successfully retiled a bathroom themselves. It can be a challenging but rewarding process, but it’s best for someone who already has at least intermediate DIY skills.

Yes, it’s always a good idea to keep a box or two of spare tiles after a home renovation project. Tiles can crack from improper installation, heavy foot traffic, and impact from drops. Having some extra tile on hand can make replacement fast, easy, and affordable. Plus, some manufacturers might discontinue particular colors or styles, and slight variations in tile colors between batches could mean mismatched tiles even if your product isn’t discontinued. Having a few spare tiles in storage can help avoid these issues, as well.

Yes, you can tile over existing tiles in a bathroom, but it is not always recommended. For this method to be successful, the original tile surface must be clean, flat, and free of damage such as cracks, unevenness, mold, or mildew. While tiling over existing tiles can save time and money, there are potential drawbacks. The new adhesive may not bond properly, and the process adds extra weight to the wall or floor. Additionally, the increased height of the surface could interfere with door clearances. For the best and most durable results, removing the old tiles before installing new ones is generally the better option.

Silicone caulk shouldn’t be used in place of grout because each material serves its own purpose. Thanks to its flexibility, silicone caulk is good for sealing around the perimeter of tiled floors, where movement and expansion might occur. However, grout is more durable, making it a better option for the joints in between tiles, which need to withstand constant weight and foot traffic.

No, you don’t technically need a cement backer board for a wall tiling project, but not using it risks disastrous moisture damage. Cement is naturally water-resistant, whereas drywall soaks it in, which can lead to warping or mold growth. Always use a backer board treated with a waterproof membrane for bathrooms and other chronically damp areas to ensure complete tile shower waterproofing.
