"This is probably THE BEST service I have ever received in my life. I contacted Edwin through a web form after researching online for inground concrete pool installation. Edwin called me the next day (it was Sunday when I filled out the form). Edwin is the owner of this business and is one of the nicest people on earth. Very courteous, polite and above all the consummate professional. We talked about my project and my budget and he came out that day to take a look at our backyard. Within a week, we had a contract and Edwin explained the timeline. the process and everything that would be involved in building a pool. And believe me, there is A LOT involved. It is a huge undertaking and with the right contractor, it can be a breeze but with the wrong contractor it can turn into a nightmare. And that was my fear to begin with. But Edwin simply 'melted' those fears because he is such a professional. His crew, everyone, from Carl (the heavy equipment operator) to Uve (I hope I got his name right - the site manager) to Adam (the electrician) and all the other sub contractors that came to our yard, they were all the consummate professionals. We broke ground in the third week of October (after signing the contract in August - it takes a few weeks for the City of Raleigh to open the permit) and believe me, by New Year Edwin was going to put water in our pool :). We had to slow him down and ask him to push the time line a bit because we simply did not want the start up process to happen during winter, not that there is anything wrong with that. Edwin listened and responded to all of our requests with such care and attention. He was on top of things, he responds to texts and made sure that all of our permitting inspections pass without any issues. If you ever thinking of putting a pool, please, please, please do your diligence and research and make sure to hire the right contractor because the process is so complex and having the right contractor, like Edwin, makes ALL THE DIFFERENCE. I would be more than happy to speak with whomever in more detail if they want a reference for Edwin. I can talk hours about our experience with him and it is ALL GOOD. Edwin and his team are probably one of the best contractors in NC when it comes to pools. They know their stuff so well and trust me, THAT IS SOOO IMPORTANT in a project of such magnitude. I am attaching a few pictures of our pool progress and the finished product. we are extremely happy with Edwin, his work, his passion, his commitment, his desire to help and always be helpful, his team and his knowledge. And one last thing, we have had the pool now for almost three year. We are extremely happy and have enjoyed it tremendously and feel like it was the right investment. A couple of times that I had an issue with the app, Edwin was most resourceful and helpful. I feel like I can always go to him and ask for help and he is always ready to help. Thank you Edwin and Team."

Customers say: True professional

"We used Anthony & Sylvan pools for the installation of our pool. It was started in November completed in March. We would recommend them. Our PM Ray Kennedy was the best. He is committed to giving his customers the best service. I had design what I wanted my pool to look like. Together Ray and I made it exactly what I wanted. We made some changes prior to digging as we drew the pool out on my lawn. He was very helpful. He's positive attitude and suggestions always made me feel comfortable. If I texted or call he answered my calls and answered questions. If I needed help he would come to my home to help and assisted me. Ray Kennedy is a asset to Anthony and Sylvan. I would recommend A & S and Ray Kennedy as your PM."

"If youâ re a pool or spa owner, give Derrick a call for all your pool maintenance needs! Iâ ve had the worst experience this year with my in-ground pool and in-ground spa (busted pool/spa heater tubes, spa leak in my jets, and broken pool pump) and Taylor Made Contracting helped me out each time in a timely manner. Unlike Swimworld (original installers) and Crystal Clear, Derrick was very responsive to my needs, has been a great communicator and his pricing was fair. I hope this review helps others that are in need of pool or spa repairs. Highly recommend!"

"Dave does what he says and shows up on time. It was important to have the jobs done quickly and also with accuracy. Dave took no shortcuts to making this house ready to list for sale. Nice guy who listens to what work you want done instead of arguing with you or making excuses. I'd definitely hire him again. Thanks again Dave!"

Install Above Ground Pools questions, answered by experts

A well-built and well-maintained concrete pool should last anywhere from 50 to 75 years. Concrete is prone to cracking, so winterization and regular pool repairs are particularly important. Water can seep into existing cracks, freeze, and make them worse. Most homeowners should resurface their concrete every few years to maintain their pool’s lifespan.

Pool chemical levels should include a pH between 7.4 and 7.6, alkalinity between 80 to 120 ppm, and chlorine from 1 to 3 ppm. The size and type of your pool determine additional chemical levels, such as stabilizers and pool shock, but you can get to know these numbers using our pool maintenance 101 guide.

The time it takes for a pool heater to heat a pool can range from eight to 48 hours, with an average of about 12 hours for the initial heating. For a more specific example, an average-sized 15,000-gallon pool may take six to 10 hours to heat up by 10 degrees. The exact duration depends on several factors, including the pool's size, the type and size of the heater, the starting water temperature, and the outside air temperature. It may take some trial and error to determine the precise time your specific pool takes to reach a desired temperature.

Yes, pool pumps use a significant amount of electricity, making them one of the biggest energy consumers in a home. A pool pump can use up to three times as much electricity as a refrigerator. Typically, a residential pool pump consumes about 1 kilowatt-hour (kWh) for every hour it runs. Because pumps often need to run for about eight hours a day to properly filter the water, this can add up to an annual consumption of 3,000 to 5,000 kWh, which can cost between $480 and $800 per year based on average electricity rates.

The amount of electricity your pump uses depends on its size, energy efficiency, and daily run time. To lower your energy consumption, you can choose an energy-efficient or variable-speed pump, ensure it is correctly sized for your pool, and run it only for the minimum time required to keep the water clean.

A pool builder can advise you on the best design for your property and vision, and can walk you through the process from design to a swim-ready pool. Knowing which questions to ask a pool builder can help ensure you choose the right person for the job.
