"Danny is a true Handy man! He is willing to do the hard jobs and is excellent at it. He communicated well with me concerning scheduling, and is punctual. I especially like how he confidently took control of the job and didn’t let me side track him with my scattered brain. I am looking forward to how he will help me get my home and even garden back to tip top shape. Highly recommended!"

Customers say: Terrific value

"Schedule for Monday, finally arrived late with only time to assess the project, quote the work, then scheduled for yesterday (Thurs.)at 1:00 to do the work, I haven't heard from him since. I've just about had it with home adviser. I can';t seem to get anyone to do anything regardless of area of expertise or specialty. Need a reliable handyman right now. EDIT Marcus & Torrell arrived on Saturday around noon to complete the job. Nice guys, cooperative, and able to be flexible to overcome unforseeen"

Handyman Services questions, answered by experts

A handyperson is the professional term used to describe professional fixers who can tackle a wide range of general home repairs. Some pros may prefer to use the term handyworker, handyman, or handywoman, so we recommend politely asking your pro how they would like you to identify them during the project.

The cost to hire a handyman can vary, with most charging on a per-hour or per-project basis. On average, expect to pay between $50 and $150 per hour, with a typical rate around $90 per hour. For project-based work, the average cost is about $400, though the total can range from as low as $180 to $1,500 or more. Some handypeople may also require a minimum flat rate, such as payment for two hours of work.

Several factors influence the final cost, including:

  • The type, size, difficulty, and complexity of the job

  • The amount of time the work takes

  • The handyman's experience level

  • Your geographic location

  • The cost of materials and any necessary permits

  • Accessibility of the work area and potential travel costs

Additionally, you may encounter higher rates or extra fees for emergency services or work scheduled during holidays.

While handypeople do not need to be licensed in many places, you should only hire insured pros for any home improvement work. Your handyperson should have active liability coverage that protects them and you in the case of an error or accident. Furthermore, if they have employees on your property, they should also have workers’ compensation insurance. If you hire an individual or a company that is not insured and they damage your property, have an accident while on the job, or become injured on your property without insurance, you can be held financially liable.

A big resounding yes, hiring a contractor is 100% worth it. They bring expertise, manage permits, coordinate professions in different trades, and help avoid costly mistakes. A pro can keep your project on budget and schedule while ensuring quality work that adds value to your home.

Almost all houses require soffits. The exception is in houses where you know without a shadow of a doubt there is adequate airflow throughout the entire house including, and most importantly, the attic. Almost all modern homes have soffits installed whether you notice them or not because on most homes, the roof eave extends beyond the walls of the home, naturally creating soffits.
