"Installed sump pump. Didn’t press for the more expensive, expansive project. I appreciated that. I also loved that they communicated and set times and dates and confirmed. So far so good. We will see if problem is resolved."

"It was an emergency repair for piping underneath the crawl space for a pin hole leak that was seeping under vanity and seeping onto our wood floors. West located that leak along with another unexpected leak within a different side if the house!! Good Job! It was a bit pricey but it was a Sunday, an emergency and there was more plumbing repairs done than what was originally expected. But we are totally satisfied with the work completed. Considering some additional work by them as requested. Very reliable!!!"

"I have used Four Seasons multiple times since moving into my new home this summer. I remodeled two bathrooms and Four Seasons disconnected plumbing lines, then reconnected them after vanities were installed, and put in new faucets. They have offered me several discounts and even some free work which is very much appreciated! Their prices without discounts is also very reasonable. Their quote on a tankless water heater (which is my next project) was also the best I received out of three different companies. The front desk staff are always very pleasant when I've called to set up an appointment and have availability within a few business days. Joel has been the plumber sent to my house for all our service calls. He is very helpful, professional, and does fantastic work. This company is clearly well organized with great staff and they care about their customers!"

"

I don't feel bad about the experience but I certainly was not impressed to the point where I can decide whether to use them or not. I am still on the fence. I might look around before I used them again. They could have better communications all the way around from sale to support. There were a number of breakdowns in the process where I was either told I was going to get certain information or I was expecting certain information and they did not provide it. I had to pick up the phone and call them multiple times. I should not have to do that. Also, the time from when we committed to the job and when it was actually performed was a long delay. That is probably because it was a busy time of year and they might be a small team. As a consumer I had to wait five or six weeks from the time I committed to when it was done and it was hot. It would have been nice once I committed for them to perform the installation sooner.

"He was not able to fix it as the problem was behind the tub where there was no access. His guess was that it was most likely one of the jet lines burst or split due to the cold winter He recommended calling the manufacturer to see if there was a way to get to the back without having to pull the tub. Otherwise we'd have to pull the tub and replace.

"Four Seasons has done several projects for us. They installed a sump pump and water heaters. When a part was recalled on the water heater, they replaced it without delay. Workers have always been polite and efficient. As an animal lover, I also support a company that supports animal rescue also. Strongly recommend this company."

"With company arriving in one week I needed a new bathroom sink installed. Peter fit me into his schedule and was there early in the week. He had the tools and know-how to get the job done in a few hours and some suggestions for finishing the bathroom as well. I would recommend him to anyone looking for a plumber.

"Our basement flooded 07-13-13 when we got a historic rainfall of 8.5" in 75 minutes. We were able to wet vac and dehumidify but wanted to eliminate our primary and battery back-up sump pumps, which had been unable to keep up with the in-flow. We felt we needed better drainage along the 60' level front driveway along the front of the house, and to install a large passive pipe from the basement sump room out into the downward-sloping back yard, about 4' lower than the sump pit. However this would be complicated due to a back-filled area between the sump room and the back yard. My husband contacted All-Dry approx 08-01-13 and they scheduled someone to visit on 08-15-13. Steve arrived on time and was professional, but said "We don't like passive drainage." They apparently have a very limited list of things they can offer: sump pumps, small (3") floor drains, plastic sheeting and dehumidifiers. We had seen about 150 gallons per minute roaring into our sump room during this storm and were traumatized yet determined never to have this happen again, even if we have another 100-year rainfall event and the electricity goes out. All Dry was unable to offer a suitable solution. Steve said they would quote the installation of the plastic sheeting if I would send them the sump room dimensions. My husband sent him the dimensions the same day but we never received a quote.
Thank goodness my husband is an engineer, as he was able to calculate the sizing and oversee installation of an NDS Dura=Slope drain channel along the driveway, and to arrange for a directional boring company to bore underground from the backyard into the sump room, where we installed a 6" PVC drain line at 4% down slope, capable of flowing over 600 gpm sans pumps."

Sump Pump Installation questions, answered by experts

A sump pump can be plugged into a regular, 110-volt outlet with three-prong openings, but it must have GFCI protections per the NEC, meaning you’ll need a GFCI outlet and circuit. Sump pumps require two outlet openings, one for the plug to the motor and one for the float switch.

To test for toilet leaks, use water coloring in the water tank and see if the water slips into the bowl from the tank. This test will indicate if there’s a problem with the flapper or refill tube. You can also put water coloring in the bowl of the toilet to see if there is a leak there. If there is, you should see the colored water on the outside of the toilet bowl or on the floor.

If you’re wondering if your home even needs a sump pump, consider whether you’ve struggled with flooding issues in the past. If your house is in a flood-prone area, your yard has poor drainage, or you’ve dealt with any other water problems, then it’s likely well worth it to replace your old sump pump with a new one.

A sump pump's lifespan is typically 7 to 10 years, though the general range can be anywhere from 5 to 15 years. The specific type of pump is a major factor: pedestal sump pumps last an average of 20 to 25 years, whereas submersible sump pumps last between 5 and 15 years. While pedestal pumps are less expensive to service, they are also louder and more prone to clogging.

Several other factors influence longevity, including the pump's quality, usage frequency, and maintenance schedule. A high-quality pump that is well-maintained in a dry climate may last for two decades, while a lower-quality, poorly maintained pump in an area with a high water table or frequent flooding may fail in six years or less.

Regular maintenance, including annual inspections and tuneups from a professional, can significantly extend the pump's life. It is time to consider a replacement if your sump pump runs constantly, cycles frequently, shows visible rust or corrosion, or trips a circuit breaker. As a preventative measure, many homeowners replace their pumps every eight years. It's also worth noting that a manufacturer's warranty can indicate expected lifespan, and some home insurance policies may not cover water damage from a pump that is past its recommended replacement date.

The most common cause of a clogged sump pump is natural debris buildup. As water enters the sump pit, it can carry small pieces of debris that build up over time, or the debris can get caught in the filter. If you forget to cover the pit after cleaning the sump pump and pit, debris can also collect in the pit. Corrosion on the metal discharge pipe can also clog the pump. Additionally, if your pipes freeze, it can prevent water from draining properly and cause a clog.
