Prompt and professional work at an extremely good price. I have nothing but good things to say about their service and would highly recommend them to anyone. I am going to hire them again for another project in the near future for which he gave me some great advice.

"They may have misplaced the invoice I gave them. What they paid me covered the materials. There was a whole day there, several issues, all resolved, sheet rock replaced and given one coat, etc."

Last fall, I set out to replace an aging oil fired boiler with a modern gas fired unit. I bought the boiler itself and laid out and fitted most of the plumbing, but I still needed help with the gas piping and the final reconnection of the new and old systems.
Peter Johnson was the perfect fit for my project. He came over to my house, looked at what I had done, offered suggestions on some changes -- for example, to move the make-up water valve closer to the boiler -- and came back to work when I could be there as well. It took us less than a day to finish the job and get the heat back on. He also helped me with getting the proper permits from the City and in dealing with the inspector.
Peter used to work in New England where boilers rather than forced hot air furnaces are the norm so he was very familiar with my heating system. He even loaned me some of his tools -- very large pipe wrenches and an invaluable pipe vise -- that are needed to deal with large black iron pipe, and taught me the best ways to assemble sections of black iron. On the job, Peter is easy to work with and even listens to WCQS.
If you're the sort of homeowner who likes to do some of your own work, Peter Johnson can consult with you to maximize the chance of success and minimize the cost of your project. Highly recommended.

"I strive to have every job work out as well as this boiler installation with [member name remove]. I am willing to do the whole job or as much as the customer requests lending tools and experience as necessary. It is a pleasure working with [member name remove]"

Overall I was very satisfied with the service.  However, Ithis is a small operation and I had to wait almost a week due to illness and my job sort of fell through the cracks.  I had to contact them a second time to find out when they would be coming?

With company arriving in one week I needed a new bathroom sink installed. Peter fit me into his schedule and was there early in the week. He had the tools and know-how to get the job done in a few hours and some suggestions for finishing the bathroom as well. I would recommend him to anyone looking for a plumber.

He called it. After resetting the thermal doohickey and confirming the disposal was sounding like it was jammed, I unjammed the unit and managed to pull out a little piece of plastic that had fallen in. Unit fired right up like nothing had happened. His free advice over the phone saved me a $100 visit for 5 minutes of work.

Just purchased a new house.   Supply valves for washing machine were leaking.   Called Peter, he asked me to take a picture of the valve and text it to him.   He called me right back and explained how I could do it myself and save a bit of $$.   The valves were so old, I was not able to get them removed.   Called him back and he came the next morning.    Replaced the valves and also fixed a simply problem with a toilet.

He gave me some ideas for adding a utility sink and took the time to explain the plumbing in our new house and some issues to look out for in the future.

I liked the fact that he offered alternatives to a service call and only recommended work that actually needed to be done.

Mr. Johnson did an excellent job!  He used quality plumbing materials.  He saved me money by first trying to clear drains with high pressure water flush instead of replacing tub drainaage U joint.  I was impressed with his knowledge and experience and I am very happy with the results
Response from PETER JOHNSON PLUMBING
"[Member name removed] did not mention that the pressure water in the drain dislodged a plastic toy eyeball 1 1/4" in diameter, just big enough to get in the tub drain which had no strainer. This "eye" was looking at us from the tub drain. When we, [member name removed] and I, removed it, the tub drain was fine. The pressured water had pushed it back to the drain hole in the tub."

Water pressure had suddenly increased dramatically, taking out a water filter in the process.  Peter Johnson plumbing came the same day I called, diagnosed the problem (failed pressure valve) and repaired in tin about 90 minutes.  It would have been quicker, but they had to buy the correct valve, they didn't have the right one on their truck.

I interviewed several plumbers before choosing Peter. They all had good Angie's List reviews but Peter's philosophy was the most conservative. My home inspector had said the plumbing in the house I purchased was shoddy and would require a complete overhaul. Peter agreed that it wasn'texactly professionally done, but there were no leaks so no need to change the whole system right away. Instead of spending $4000 on replacing everything I spent $230 to change the pressure regulator. A great plumber and a great person! Highly recommended.
Response from PETER JOHNSON PLUMBING
"This customer and her husband just purchased this one-floor house and wanted to do whatever was necessary to move in. She wanted an estimate on what was needed for the plumbing system at this point. After determining that the water line from the street to the full basement was not leaking, the only outstanding issue was the leaking relief valve on the water heater. A "Lazy-needle" pressure gauge was put on the water heater to determine the highest water pressure in the house during the night when the street pressure can get to 200 psi due to low consumption in the neighborhood. The pressure reached about 125 psi which pressure would open the relief valve on the water heater. The Pressure Reducing Valve would not adjust the pressure below about 100 psi. PRV valves are mechanical devices that wear out over time, and the existing valve was perhaps 10 years old at least. The PRV was replaced, and set to reduce the incoming street pressure to about 60 psi, and the lazy-needle gauge showed a high pressure overnight of about 95 psi, and the water relief valve was not leaking; so the primary issue was resolved. Both the husband and wife are working, and the house is unoccupied during the day. At this point, they have no children and the house can be shut down during the day with no inconvenience to them. It seemed that a good course of action would be to move in and live with the existing system to determine if the existing system was adequate. If there were problems, they could be addressed during the day in the future with no inconvenience. The existing plumbing will need to be replaced, and this change may not be necessary for several years at which point they would have recovered from the expenses of a new home purchase and have time to prepare for revisions of their somewhat old system. As I have not heard from them, it would seem that the existing system is workable. The basic approach involves doing only what is necessary even if the customer is considering extensive updating. My approach is to do only the necessary with consideration of the entire situation. In this case, any repairs or replacements can happen easily as all the plumbing is easily accessible in the full basement (some crawl space) in this one-floor 1 1/2 bathroom house."

Did not come far about 3 weeks after contact.
I had expected the electrical connection but that was not included. As a result, I was not able to test to see if it leaked. when it was first used. Unfortunately, it did leak. I did not realize it for a while afterwards when I saw the water on the shelf below, but too late. I did not contact the plumber to fix it.
Response from PETER JOHNSON PLUMBING
"There was no electrical feed wire to the sink cabinet for the disposal. If there is an active circuit and wire for the disposal, we make the final connection when we install the disposal. Without power, the unit cannot be tested under working conditions. We would have come back to test the unit, and he did not call us after it was connected to power. I tell customers to check any installation for a few days as leaks can appear at any time even though the install is not leaking when when checked before leaving. I called this member and offered him the Coupon again at no additional charge, and he said he would call me in the future when a plumbing issue arises."

Can't say enough good things about Peter's quircky personality - my wife and I both felt very comfortable with him.  He came for an evening to look at the tub, spent a few hours and realized it was a much bigger job than expected.  He only charged $90 for the first couple hours.  We were doing renovations a floor below, so he waited till the tub drain was further exposed which I felt reasonable.  Luckily he was on hand when a steam pipe was uncovered in a wall we were taking out - and as he has a ton of experience he was definitely up to the task of rearranging this and pretty much saved the day.  The only downside was the price - I'm not familiar with how much plumber's usually cost, so kept asking estimates.  His overall general estimate was less than 50% of what it ended up being.  It's not the cost that bothered us as much as the low estimate so that when it came time to pay we were shocked and unprepared.  He'd itemized and calculated correctly, however, for $75/hr plumber's fee, which I guess is reasonable.
Response from PETER JOHNSON PLUMBING
"[member name removed] and his wife were leaving town and the tub was not draining. I stopped by on the way home and determined that the original "lead bend" trap and drain and trap finally plugged up and was leaking. The carpenters were planning to remove the wall between the kitchen and the dining room while they were gone. The timing was perfect here as the tub is above the wall to be removed and the drain had to be reinstalled down to the crawl space where it could be connected to the 4" building drain (before they returned). After they had left, the wall was removed to find a steam pipe that had to be re-routed. If [member name removed]had been home, they would have seen how much time it takes to cut and thread and install the replacement steel pipe even with the power threader. And, we did contact them when we discovered it, and it had to be re-routed. The whole plumbing process was done in time for the carpenters to close-in their work before [member name removed] returned so they would have the kitchen and upstairs tub after their long weekend away. Sometimes projects move along as we hope. I am sorry for the inconvenience, and it could have been more intense if the plumber had to be retained on Thurs for a rush job. And, of course, it would have been really inconvenient if the tub drain quit a couple weeks after the carpenters were done as both the ceiling and wall would have to be re-opened to repair the tub drain and then replaced and painted, etc, above the kitchen sink. We always try to accommodate our efforts with consideration for all those involved."

He came out and inspected the problem. Saw that one of my toilets had not been installed property and left the pipes leaking in the basement. I told him I couldn't afford to replace that whole system, but he agreed to do it for a reduced price. I am very happy with his customer service and quality.

As described in detail above, I was very pleased with the work that Peter performed.  It was necessary for him to make 3-4 visits to our home to make the necessary repairs since the work that was needed was pretty extensive.
