"We had originally thought a new tub/shower combo would be fine, but the longer I thought about it I realized I needed a walk in shower I called customer service to change the order. Even though it was past the time for changes the agent, Dylan was able to make it happen for us. I was elated! the service from sales, Mort, to customer service, to the insaller David M and his team mate was great. The job was completed in 1 day and the clean up was really good too. David communicated very well on the day of install. Very impressed and will recommend this company if asked who did our work."

"I initially contracted for just a bathtub refinishing. The tub ended up so sparkling and new looking that the worn bathroom floor looked horrendous. So I asked them about flooring, ultimately purchasing a floating laminate to put over the ugly tiled floor. We repeated the flooring in the other bathroom. The entire process was efficient, timely, and reasonably priced."

"Xterra did an excellent job replacing my asphalt shingle roof. They responded within a day, communicated clearly throughout the project, and offered competitive pricing compared to other companies I contacted. The quality of their work was outstanding, and I highly recommend them!"

"It went very well. He was very professional, arrived on time and he was a perfectionist- He didn't stop until everything was done correctly and to my satisfaction. I plan on using him again to install a vanity in my other bathroom as well."

"Overall, very well and we are extremely pleased with the results! I had contacted 3 other contractors/companies for this job over the prior year (one other from Angie's List) and either they couldn't do what I wanted, or, did not get back to me with an estimate (after a home consult had already been done and went well!). I chose HousePro after reading several reviews, specifically about the kind of work that I was interested in. We had our garden tub converted to a walk-in shower with rain head shower and handheld, a glass panel and no door, and glass panel over a knee wall. We have a rather large window on one wall and I wanted to keep the natural light so that was a bit of a challenge for other contractors, but not for HousePro. We also had a new fan/light/heater installed (right over open shower entry for winter time), our old stall shower converted back to drywall (for a mini closet), floor tile replaced, new vanity cabinet and top, toilet replaced, new bars and hardware. The project began a little later than expected and took longer than expected, but I'm learning that is fairly common, with unexpected delays and scheduling conflicts, etc. The initial review and estimate was with Greg, the owner, and then Jonathan worked with me to decide on and clarify details. We did change a few things along the way, and Jonathan was very receptive and helpful, listening to what I wanted and explaining some pros and cons since (I learned) many products and procedures had changed in the last decade. There was one thing I wanted to do that didn't make it into the estimate and I didn't realize that, so by the time I did ask about it, it was too late in the project. So that's a reminder to myself to be sure to look over the estimate closely, for (what I felt was) a large project. The guys were courteous and professional. Austin, the tile installer, did an amazing job, which was also commented on by my painters. I often wanted to observe and learn and the guys were always willing to answer my (many) questions. On a couple of occasions, I was expecting someone in the morning, which became the afternoon, which then became the next day, but I was almost always informed of the delays. Luckily I work from home so it was not an issue."

Small jobs welcome

"This is now the third time that we have used this company. Each time the service has been really great they pleasant, polite, professional, and very custom orientated. The first time we use them, it was to add a sunroom to our house. The second time was to add a deck to the back of our house around half of our above ground pool. This time was to replace a pipe that was damaged during some landscaping that we did. Obviously, we would recommend them as we have now. Use them three times."

Bathtub Replacement questions, answered by experts

While tubs are fairly sturdy, you may notice cracks or holes. This kind of damage can happen from someone accidentally dropping something heavy into the tub. You might also see damage if you drop something heavy into the tub over and over again (like your extra large bottle of body wash). While you might only notice a small dent at first, this can later turn into a crack or a hole.

Also, certain cleaners that are harmful to your tub can cause damage. And if you have a fiberglass tub, you might see cracks if it was not installed properly with the right support.

It’s substantially less expensive to reglaze a tub than to replace it. The average cost of reglazing a bathtub is between $400 and $700, but that range may be higher based on where you live and the type of tub you have. Meanwhile, if you want to replace the bathtub, you’re looking at $2,000 to $9,400, with the average close to $5,700.

Options include alcove, freestanding, clawfoot, or whirlpool tubs for various preferences.

An alcove tub is designed to fit into a three-walled enclosure in a bathroom. A drop-in tub, on the other hand, is placed into a custom-built frame or enclosure. This frame can be fitted to an alcove, making a drop-in tub a viable alternative if you want a more custom or spa-like look. Because the frame is custom, drop-in tubs offer more design flexibility and a wider range of materials, such as cultured marble or tile, compared to the simpler acrylic or fiberglass of a typical alcove tub. The frame for a drop-in tub can also be placed anywhere in the bathroom it fits, not just in an alcove.

Installing a clawfoot tub with a minimum of 6 inches of clearance from surrounding walls allows ample room for the faucet and pipework, makes cleaning easier, and reduces the chance of moisture being trapped between the tub and the walls. It might need to be closer if the faucet comes directly out of the wall.
