"Ducts were cleaned as we contracted for. When they finished the HVAC ducts they said they would do the dryer vent as a complimentary service. I told them I had recently cleaned it and they would probably not get much lint out of the vent. I was amazed at all they got out and it was at no additional charge."

"Our entire heating and air system failed. We called JLHVAC and electrical LLC. A technician responded within 30 minutes. He diagnosed the problem and explained it to us in terms we could understand and trust. Our system was aged so we opted to have the heat pump and air handler replaced. Joshua Long and his team replaced all of that plus a new digital thermostat the next day. The total price was a few thousand less than what we expected to pay. If there were more than 5 stars to rate with, we would give more stars."

Air filters with a high MERV rating, 11 or above, shouldn't cause airflow problems in most residential systems. If in doubt, a local duct installer should inspect your ductwork so that you know what your system can handle.

Indications of an HVAC problem include inconsistent heating or cooling throughout your home, unpredictable temperature changes, or inadequate air flow from vents. Abnormal sounds such as grinding, banging, or hissing, and unpleasant smells like mustiness or burning are also potential warning signs. One of the fastest ways to unfreeze an AC unit is to turn off the unit and, if it’s warm outside, use the fan-only mode to help blow warmer air through the unit to speed up the defrosting process. While it may be tempting to use a hair dryer to defrost the air conditioner, that high heat can damage the coils.

After defrosting, if you can safely solve the issue with a fix like changing the filter, go ahead and do so. Otherwise, call in a pro before turning your AC back on.
