Customers say: True professional

"To start, I would rate the person who called and handled the scheduling 5 stars, she was awesome. Sadly though the service did not live up to the same standard. My first appointment was supposed to be to clean, set up and perform an analysis on the hot tub. The tech came out, cleaned and got it set up, but couldn't not do the analysis because of a valve. He ordered the valve and said he would return as soon as he had the part to finish the job. Four days later I received a call, said the part had arrived and they would be out later that day to install. The tech showed up, spent about 30 minutes installing the part and then was ready to collect his $145 for the service call. I asked if the tub worked, was told it does, asked if the heater worked, was told it does and then he rushed off to finish his Friday afternoon. He did not go over anything with us. After researching the hot tub I was able to figure out the controls and test the functionality. There are at least 3 jets that have no water flow and one control that is not functional. None of this was found or told to me during their analysis. Overall, $225 to have the hot tubs washed out, which i could have done myself had i known that was all that was going to be done in the first visit, and then $145 additional to have a valve installed. I have now called a different company to come out and provide a real analysis of the hot tub and estimate for what it will cost to get it fully operational."

"Joe is Shark Pools. He has eons of experience about anything to do with pools and especially pool liners. So as a new pool owner, Joe has been gracious in tutoring this novice on what to do and the why to ensure the best life out of my pool liner and pool experience in general. His work is superb and pricing more than fair. Joe is old school, meaning he does what he promises and exceeds all expectations. My wife and I not only got a wonderful pool renovation, but gained a life-long friend in the process."

Pool and Spa Servicing questions, answered by experts

You can drain a hot tub very quickly by using a submersible pump rather than the hose-sized drain at the bottom exterior of the tub. A pump can move up to 30 gallons per minute, draining your hot tub in no time. Using the regular drain can take up to two hours.

Biofilm growth can cause a hot tub to feel slimy. Hot tub biofilm is a slimy substance that’s typically due to natural contaminants like makeup, soaps, skin oils, deodorants, or lotions. A hot tub can also have a slimy interior or slimy water if the tub’s filters are old or damaged, or if the hot tub isn’t properly cleaned. You should drain your hot tub, wipe away any slimy residue, then refill the water and use a spa purge product that prevents the buildup of biofilm.

Yes, hot tubs can use a significant amount of electricity, primarily to keep the water heated. A typical hot tub uses between 1,500 and 6,000 watts, and the pump can add another 1,500 watts. This usage can result in a monthly cost of around $20 to $30. The exact amount of electricity consumed depends on several factors, including the hot tub's age, size, heater voltage (120V vs. 240V), usage habits, and thermostat setting. Newer, energy-efficient models generally use less power than older ones. To reduce electricity costs, consider investing in an energy-efficient model, using a quality insulated cover with a thermal blanket, and keeping the filters clean.

If you don’t clean your hot tub filters, they’ll build up dirt and grime, preventing them from filtering out contaminants like dirt and bacteria. The dirty water will then circulate through the filter and back into the hot tub, leading to dirty water, a damaged pump and jets, and low heat. This can lead to higher hot tub costs because you may have to pay for repairs.

When your hot tub is completely dry, there is typically no need to introduce antifreeze into the plumbing. However, if you desire an extra layer of protection against potential freeze damage, you can consider adding some RV antifreeze to your hot tub lines. Just ensure that you use RV antifreeze specifically, as automotive antifreeze is highly toxic and should be avoided.
