Where you drain a hot tub largely depends on local regulations, but you must not drain chemically treated water where it can damage the environment. Direct the water toward a sanitary sewer drain that will take it to a treatment facility. If your lawn has a dedicated drainage area that’s free from plants and foundations, you can likely drain it there. Avoid storm drains, as the hot tub water will enter waterways and could hurt aquatic life. Likewise, do not pour it out directly on any public land or where it can get into your neighbors’ property. 

You should have your spa or hot tub inspected and serviced yearly to prevent more costly repairs. Regular hot tub maintenance can save money and help keep you safe from hazards such as faulty wiring. Call a professional hot tub repair specialist, who will know what common issues to look for and have the parts and tools on hand to fix them immediately.

It’s less expensive to leave your hot tub on all the time, though you’ll want to keep it at a reduced temperature. How much you use the hot tub is also a factor. You’ll want to keep it at a constant temperature between 80 and 95 degrees Fahrenheit for weekly or daily use, then bump it up right before you get in. If you don’t plan to use your hot tub that often, you can turn it off as long as there’s no risk of freezing.

High-quality, maintained tubs can last decades, while low-quality, poorly maintained tubs may not hit five years.
