Most of what we do is full tear-out and replacement. We remove the old cracked, settling, or spalling concrete, rebuild the base the right way, and pour new. We also handle driveway extensions and widening, aprons and curb cuts, stamped and decorative concrete, and concrete repair.\n\nOur crews have poured more than 38,000 residential concrete projects. Every job gets a dedicated project coordinator, up-front pricing with no surprise change orders, and a final walkthrough before we call it finished. Licensed and insured.\n\nNeed a new driveway? "David was a pleasure to work with in regard to replacing a large portion of our concrete driveway that had been damaged by very large tree roots. The tree roots had cracked/heaved up portions of the driveway, creating a safety hazard for both people and vehicles. David is very knowledgeable, methodical, diligent, detail oriented/thorough, and very punctual. His pricing is very fair and he performs the job as described in his estimate. The replaced section of our driveway looks great! I would highly recommend David for any concrete work."

Customers say: True professional

"Jeff was very professional, responsive, and interested in my business. They actually made several trips to my home to provide a detailed estimate. Jeff went above and beyond with his estimate (even though I modified the requirements slightly after our first conversation). While they were just slightly more expensive than the concrete service company I selected, I really made my decision based on volumes of pre-exiting ratings. Since Universal Concrete is "fairly" new , they didn't have as many reviews as most other companies (I am providing this review to assist with this). Everything else was almost equal. Would highly recommend!"

Concrete Driveways questions, answered by experts

Whether you need to winterize your pressure washer depends on where you store it. If you can keep it in a relatively warm place with no risk of freezing, you won't need to add antifreeze. However, if the machine will be stored in freezing temperatures, any liquid left in the water pump can freeze, expand, and cause severe damage. To prevent this, add antifreeze to keep it in good condition. While some suggest emptying the machine with compressed air, this can be a tedious process that may not fully drain the liquid. Regardless of storage conditions, it is also good practice to empty the gas chamber and refresh the oil before winter storage.

Pressure washing is a great way to take care of built-up messes much more easily and quickly than manual scrubbing. Pressure washing can save you energy, time, and even money by getting rid of contaminants that can lead to damage to your home. It can also increase curb appeal if you’re getting ready to make a home sale.

You should avoid using a pressure washer on any surface or item that could be damaged by the high-pressure spray, as some materials are too delicate to withstand the force.

Key items and surfaces to avoid include:

  • Electrical Components: Never pressure wash electrical systems, as water can cause short-circuits and create a safety hazard. This includes utility meters, breaker boxes, electrical outlets, generators, and HVAC or air conditioner units.

  • Delicate and Fragile Materials: Fragile items can crack, shatter, or be stripped by the pressure. Avoid pressure washing windows, glass, light fixtures, shingled roofs (especially asphalt), and stucco.

  • Painted, Stained, or Sealed Surfaces: Unless your goal is to strip the finish, do not pressure wash painted surfaces, stained wood (like decks), or anything with a protective seal that could be stripped away. Be especially cautious with older surfaces that may contain lead paint.

  • Soft Woods and Certain Decking: Delicate surfaces like softwood, composite decking, and antique or wooden patio furniture can be etched or damaged. If you must wash wood, use a lower-powered pressure washer with a wide-angle nozzle to prevent damage.

  • Living Things: Never use a pressure washer on people, pets, or plants. The force can cause serious injury and will destroy landscaping.

These parts of the house are okay to pressure wash:

  • Natural wood decking that is not stained or painted

  • Siding made of vinyl, aluminum, and cement

  • Concrete

  • Most children’s toys

  • Outdoor furniture

  • Trash cans and recycle bins

Maintaining a driveway depends on its material. For concrete and asphalt, it's best to clean the surface thoroughly twice a year with a stiff broom and a pressure washer to remove accumulated dirt and debris. Sealing the driveway is crucial to protect it from water damage and freeze-thaw cycles. Before applying a sealant, pressure wash the surface to remove any loose sealant, dirt, or stains, as sealing over them will trap them. Any cracks or expansion joints should be filled with a flexible polyurethane caulk or asphalt sealer. In colder climates, use sand instead of salt for de-icing. Sand helps melt snow and ice without accelerating the freeze-thaw process, which can cause cracks.
