"Excellent! The Hidden Cove Construction crew was awesome. They did a fantastic job in a really difficult situation. The roof they replaced was underneath a large outdoor deck and there was little room to work. They were up and down multiple ladders for two straight days, working in tight spaces, and finished the job ahead of schedule. I highly recommend them. "Fidelity Roofing called the same day, scheduled to inspect our roof within the week. (They could have come earlier in the week, but my schedule was the conflict.) He called and was able to come earlier in the day, noticed the issue, fixed it and was on his way. He even took a video of the issue and explained what his repair was. Whether you should choose a flat roof or a sloped roof depends on your particular situation. Flat roofs tend to be less expensive to install. However, sloped roofs have longer lifespans and stand up better to heavy snow and other inclement weather.

Keep in mind that even a flat roof needs to have a slight slope, usually around 1/2 inch for every foot. If it is completely flat, water will pool and cause damage, either from weight or leakage or rot.

It’s the reverse of home de-winterization. To winterize, you purge your plumbing system (including your water heater and all piping) of water. Some experts also recommend filling fixtures with an antifreeze solution. Other tasks involve winterizing sprinklers, sealing foundation vents, check weatherproofing around doors and windows, and more.

Rain shouldn’t come in through your ridge vents unless your vents are damaged or the rain is accompanied by very high winds. Most ridge vents use flashing or baffling to keep out rain, snow, and debris. If your ridge vent isn’t baffled, rain is more likely to enter your attic, so ridge vents with baffles are a better choice in areas with regular rainfall.

You will pay a set fee for a roofing inspection and use it to get certification or to determine whether repair or replacement is necessary. Beware of unsolicited contractors coming to your home and offering a so-called free roof inspection—these are often scams.

Roofing estimates, on the other hand, are typically free and offered by a roofing company hoping to earn your business. Some roofing estimates are performed with drones, while other companies will still opt to send people up onto the roof. Either way, the estimate is for roof repair or replacement costs the company wants you to hire them for.

You can technically install a metal roof over asphalt shingles, but it isn’t a good idea. This is because you’re essentially creating a moisture barrier under the metal, which can easily—and often does—lead to significant mold damage. Removing an asphalt roof isn’t terribly expensive, and some roofing companies might cut you a serious labor and disposal discount if you add it to a new install.
