"Richard arrived on time, fully prepared to undertake the periodic servicing of our tankless water heater. He explained everything he was going to do and why it was necessary. No, it’s not safe to use a blowtorch or any open flame to thaw pipes. The intense heat can cause the pipe to burst and/or start a fire, leading to very costly damage. Instead, use safer external heating alternatives, such as heat tape, a space heater, or an infrared lamp.
