"WNC Masonry was hired to assess the condition of two fireplaces and a stone chimney after receiving assessments and estimates from two other fireplace and chimney businesses. What he found that actually needed repairs was considerably less than what the others said HAD to be done. Levi learned about stone and brick masonry as he worked with his father while young. He has many years of experience also as a sole business owner. His integrity, honesty and professional knowledge are superior. He's hardworking and friendly. Levi repaired the exterior of the stone fireplace, had a cap built and he installed it. His costs were far less than half of the other estimates I received. I highly recommend him for his knowledge, skills and reasonable costs."

"I had a little trouble with scheduling but once that was straightened out they came on time. They ordered me a new chimney cover and came within two weeks to put it on and finish the cleaning."

"My home has a chimney that was unsafe to use (cracked masonry liner). I dreaded the time and cost of a tear down and replacement. I contacted "Shamrock Chimney" and scheduled an appointment with their lead technician "Tony". He suggested a less costly and safer alternative (steel liner and a resealing of the outer brickwork. The work was performed over a two-day period. I am fully satisfied with the results. One thing I really apricate is the communication during the project. The "front office" would let me know by either phone or email when the project would start, and then Tony and would give me updates. All and all the whole process went smoothly. Also, this was my first time with "Angi", I hope to use their services again in the future."

Small jobs welcome

"Very responsive, fair price. Hard working crew. They demoed our sinking front steps and concrete sidewalk. Rebuilt the steps and installed a new paver sidewalk. Very professional and would recommend."

Fireplaces questions, answered by experts

Running a gas fireplace costs approximately $0.35 per hour for natural gas and $0.62 per hour for propane, though these figures can vary significantly based on fuel prices in your area. On average, the annual cost to run a gas fireplace is between $400 and $640. The exact impact on your utility bill depends on several factors, including how often you use it, the size of the room you're heating, and the fireplace's BTU rating. Some models with a constantly running pilot light will consume a minimal amount of energy even when off, although many modern fireplaces do not require one. If you are looking for a more energy-efficient option, consider an electric fireplace.

Most repairs take 2-6 hours, but extensive fixes or part replacements may require additional time.

Yes, it is possible to convert a wood-burning fireplace to gas. The average cost for this conversion is $3,000, with a typical range of $500 to $5,500. The project involves running a gas line, professionally cleaning the chimney, and installing gas logs.

Cost factors include the type of gas fireplace and whether a new gas line is needed. Installing a natural gas line can add $200 to $1,000 to the cost. Vented gas fireplaces are more expensive, averaging around $5,000, while ventless options are more cost-effective at about $1,500.

Yes, you can put a freestanding one in a corner if you’re tight on space. Because pellet stoves don’t get as hot as other types of wood stoves, there only needs to be 3 inches of clearance from the wall on each side. Placing it in a corner should not impact the ventilation—you’ll still need to follow safety precautions by not installing too close to a window. Typically, it’s 4 feet from a window or 18 inches if the stove uses an external air source for combustion. Always check the owner’s manual for specific instructions.

In addition to flashing, a roof cricket can help divert water around your chimney so that it drains properly off your roof. It’s shaped like a double triangle and is installed behind the chimney so that falling water spills evenly down each side. This helps prevent water from accumulating behind your chimney, which can increase water damage and the risk of leaks.

The International Building Code (IBC) requires cricket installation if a chimney built after 2012 measures over 30 inches in width. Chimneys constructed before that date are typically grandfathered in and aren’t required to have crickets installed.
