"I donâ t often write reviews for companies Iâ ve hired to do service work. Iâ ll give them a star rating and thatâ s usually it. So why do one for Northland Air Duct Cleaning and owner Joe Black, read on and see why. I have an HVAC company weâ ve been using for years to do a/c and heating regular maintenance. They have suggested on more than one occasion that we need to get our air ducts cleaned. I knew we did but was not happy with the $750.00 estimate to do the work. Surely this canâ t be this expensive. I went on Home Advisors to get some more bids and settled on Joe and his company. He had a 4.8 rating and nearly 200 reviews. Seemed pretty good to me. I reached out to Joe and we set an October 15th appointment to come clean our ducts and dryer vent. Joe was here nearly five hours and by all appearances did a great job. A couple of days later our house smelled like something odd was burning. I called Joe and he said it might be residual dust from the cleaning passing through the heat exchanger but it should go away. It did. Several weeks later we noticed that when the house got a little chilly and we wanted to move the thermostat up to a higher temp, the furnace would kick on, run for a little while then stop but the blower was still engaged. My wife reached out to our HVAC regulars to see if they could send a tech out to check out our unit to make sure nothing was amiss. Because we have a service membership with this company, we were able to get a service tech out quickly on November 24th. We explained what we were experiencing and he set out to diagnose the issue. He determined that the static pressure in our unit/duct work was compromised due to the â Aâ coil being plugged up with debris left over from the duct cleaning. The service tech provided me with a camera video showing me the problem. I was not a happy camper with this diagnosis and even less happy when our â long-timeâ service tech presented me with two options: They could clean the â Aâ coil and blower fan assembly for another $646.00 or use their preferred duct cleaning company for $699.00. This was on top of the $65.00 preferred member service call fee. They couldnâ t do it then as we would have to book another appointment. I called Joe the first thing the next morning and share with him our furnace issues. While he was very sorry that this happened and that he had never had something like this ever crop up in all his years in business and couldnâ t see how he might be to blame for this. I hung up with Joe as I had a few other options to visit. Joe called back and asked if he could send a friend of his that he said was someone he trusted in the HVAC business to check out our unit and work with him to fix the problem. I received a call from Donovan Day, Owner, All Day Comfort Heating and Cooling, to set an appointment that day. Levi Day was at our house at 2:30 PM fix our problem. He had the â Aâ coil cleaned and the blower fan okayed for use in 30â . In addition, he discovered that our exhaust vent from the furnace to the outside chimney was not up to code and needed to be replaced. He also, said that this was clearly not an issue caused over a long period of time but as a result of the duct cleaning and would deal with Joe on making it right. Now this all happened the Wednesday before Thanksgiving Day. Joe called the next morning to see how we were doing and I told him that at first, I was not very happy with his not taking responsibility for our furnace debacle, but he and All Day Comfort Heating & Cooling were going to be highly recommended by me. First for Joe standing behind his work, realizing it could be his fault for the problem and getting a solution to fix it. And to All Day Comfort H&C for their over the top excellence getting our problem solved in record time. Props to both companies."

A Healthy Home Begins With Clean Carpets. Protect your family and investment with clean carpets. Nothing cleans more thoroughly than our patented and green ZEROREZ® cleaning system. • Carpet stays cleaner longer: Harsh detergents leave behind residue, which attracts dirt. Because we never use soap, nothing but clean is left behind after our non-toxic water-based agent is applied. • Old traffic lanes and spots are far less likely to reappear: Our process will not penetrate the carpet backing. Stains are pulled from the padding back into the carpet fibers through a wicking action. • Carpets aren't soaked during cleaning: No soaking cuts down drying times. • Highly trained, uniformed, full-time technicians: We are professionals. Our respectful techs will be a pleasure to have in your home. Trust our ZEROREZ® experts to clean carpets like no one else in the Kansas City area -- our patented process assures it! "These guys did a great job on my older house with an updated HVAC system. They were professional throughout the entire experience, communicated and were on time, and kept the house clean. They even checked back a few days later to see if I was still satisfied with the work and if I could tell the difference (which I could!). A little expensive but I believe you pay for what you get and for quality work so it was wroth the money. I would recommend them to my friends and family."

"For $39 you don't get very much. First, the receptionist seemed perturbed when I called to get an ETA for the tech. Upon arrival, the (grumpy) tech spent about a half hour. In the past when I paid other HVAC businesses $80+ they were on site an hour or more and seemed more thorough. The tech said nothing about my system or the service, but did leave a list services performed. Tech did not cover his shoes. Also, the tech did not say hello, goodbye or thank you. I think it's worth paying more for established service providers with a proven track record."

"When my a/c went out on a Saturday evening I was panicked. I called around and David was the first to offer to come take a look, on a Sunday morning no less. Turns out there was a wire that had over heated and he was able to quickly replace that and clean/service the outside unit. The a/c was up and running in less than an hour! He was very knowledgeable and talked me through what had happened, why it happened, and what the future may hold for my older HVAC units."

Heating and Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

If your home has an existing forced-air heat system, you can add a central air conditioner to it. An HVAC technician can retrofit your forced-air heating system by installing an evaporator coil onto the furnace plenum, the box next to the furnace that draws in air. Once installed, the air conditioning coils use the furnace’s blower to circulate the air.

You can protect your air conditioner in the winter by turning off the power at the thermostat and performing routine HVAC maintenance in the spring. Regular maintenance, cleaning, and repair of your AC unit helps protect it and extend its life span. If you have a window AC unit, remove it from the window and store it in a dry place during the winter. Window units cannot withstand freezing temperatures. Keeping them in your window also allows cold air to seep into your home.

Many factors affect how much adding air conditioning will cost you, from the size of your home to the size, type, brand, and installation specifics of the system itself. Chances are, a new central air conditioning system for a 2,000-square-foot house will cost somewhere between $3,900 and $7,900 to install, with an average around $6,000

If you’re looking for an energy-efficient heating and cooling system to heat a compact to average-sized home, then a ductless system is absolutely worth considering. The installation is less hassle when compared to a ducted heat pump system, and because your electricity bills should drop, it’s an excellent long-term investment.

No. Your furnace does not run your air conditioner. Both units use the same system of ductwork to move conditioned air throughout your home, but you can have a furnace without having an air conditioner and vice versa. Furnaces are only for heating your home. You can buy a system that does both, however, like a split system or a heat pump (yes, heat pumps cool, too).
