"The sales rep took several water testsâ ¦ The sales rep took several water tests and showed me the results. She told me that I needed more than just a water softener. I also needed a system to address the rust and iron in my well water. I did not want to spend a fortune but the sales lady was pretty convincing. The price was good and the workmanship was excellent. My water is clean again ! Now I can tackle the original problem. My toilet has bad rust stains. I will either get it clean, or replace it. I could not do this until the water was fixed."

"Everett is a very experienced and knowledgeable water guy. My water reeked of chlorine and was very hard (within three weeks of living here, my dog's water bowl had a crust of mineral hardness in bottom of bowl, so I knew the water was very hard). He tested my water and showed me the levels of chlorine (more than a public pool requires) and the hardness grains were approx. 14. I purchased a water softener and conditioner combo unit, and also a reverse osmosis system so as to have safe water for drinking, cooking and bathing, and to save my appliances from the hard water. I was very happy with his workmanship and the products installed. Taking a shower was a delight, no more nasty chlorine smell! Everett even did a few extra items for me, totally unrelated to the install, and I greatly appreciated his kindness and help! I would highly recommend this company for all your water needs! The price was right too! Pam"

"The day went very smoothly.  Actually, I thought he was just coming for an estimate but said he would be able to do the work immediately.  Great !   We had been using duct tape to try to cover the areas we thought were leaking and we had tried to clean up the area as best we could but there was still a lot of sticky residue on the marble in the shower area.  Jason  worked very hard and got most everything and recaulked the entire shower.  He also noticed the area around the tub was also looking pretty shabby and redid that area also.  When he was finished everything looked brand new.  A great job.  He was a pleasure to work with - very polite and accommodating.  We would definitely use him again and we plan to.  "

"We bought a house recently. The inspection report called for installation of an expansion tank and lengthened drip leg on the HW heater. Jamison Plumbing had installed the new HW tank several months before for the original home owner. Jason called the City of Liberty to determine the exact code requirements. He called back and agreed to the additional work at no charge. He was able to make the changes in a timely manner. His crew called to say they would be later than planned because of an unexpected delay at the preceding job site. We appreciated his willingness to finish the installation according to code and to cover the additional materials and time. It was a great way to be welcomed into a new community.

"Rivers Plumbing is GREAT! YOU do not COVER FROST-FREE FAUCETS!!! I could understand you not paying for a faucet at the kitchen sink, but this faucet runs through the FLOOR of our home and out the wall to the outside of the home, and requires professional service! You would think that a real insurance company would cover such a device as I would not ask you to cover an inside faucet; it is something that can be taken care of by the home owner! Typical insurance company small print jibber jabber. You are not THERE when you are really needed! Your policies stink."

Water Softeners questions, answered by experts

Replacing a water softener costs $200 to $6,000, depending on the capacity of the water softener, the type of water softener, and the amount of people living in your home. An ion exchange water softener is the most common type and costs $500 to $3,000. Water distillers, which cost $1,200 to $4,000, and dual-tank models, which cost $1,000 to $5,000, are definitely pricey, but they offer more filtration or capacity, respectively.

Whether you need a permit or license for a water softener installation depends on your location, as requirements vary significantly. Some municipalities require the installer to hold a plumbing license, some mandate a permit and an inspection, and others require both. In some areas, no special permit or license is needed at all.

To determine the rules in your area, you can contact your local building department or consult a local water softener installer or plumber. Often, only certified professionals are authorized to pull the necessary permits, and they will typically handle the entire permitting process for you. Regardless of local laws, it is always recommended to hire a licensed professional to ensure the system is sized and installed correctly. You can use Angi’s state licensing tool to check an installer’s license status.

Softened water prevents scale deposits, reducing appliance wear, leading to energy savings and longer-lasting household fixtures.

Because it’s been through the water cycle, evaporating and becoming slightly acidic thanks to dissolved carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, rainwater tends to be naturally soft compared to groundwater, which has just been in contact with limestone. However, the natural hardness level of water always depends on where you are and other factors.

Experts recommend that you put two to four bags of potassium chloride in your water softener every month. This amount depends on how much is in the bag (40 pounds is most common) and what your water softener manufacturer recommends. For more specific advice, talk to a water softener pro in your area and read the manual that came with your system.
