"First Choice responded in a very timely manner to replace our broken sump pump and faulty drain pipe. The technician Matt was professional and very knowledgeable. He quickly identified the issues and went straight to work correcting them. "Carter installed a water softener at our old house about four years ago. The softener has worked great and has been trouble-free - just throw a couple of bags of salt in the tank every month. We recently moved and called Carter to move the softener to our new house. Jeff is punctual, courteous, prepared, and professional. High quality unit and installation at a reasonable price. Great company."

Water Softeners questions, answered by experts

Softened water prevents scale deposits, reducing appliance wear, leading to energy savings and longer-lasting household fixtures.

There are many possibilities for why your shower’s water pressure is low. It might be a simple-to-fix issue like the water valves being partially turned off, a dirty showerhead or hose, leaks in the plumbing, or an old showerhead. However, low water pressure in the shower could also indicate a larger issue with your home’s plumbing system.

Hard water is not considered unhealthy and is safe to drink, cook with, and bathe in. It doesn't pose a risk to your physical health and can even help you get enough essential minerals like calcium in your diet. However, it can negatively affect skin and hair. Using hard water for washing can contribute to dry skin, an itchy scalp, and may worsen conditions like eczema by altering the pH balance. Additionally, some people do not like the taste of hard water.

Generally, it is safe to bathe in yellow water, as the color is often caused by iron, tannins, or rust, which won't harm your skin. Soap will still clean you effectively, though the water might leave stains. However, if the water has an unusual smell or you suspect contamination, avoid bathing and contact a plumber for an inspection. A professional can also help if you find bathing in yellow water problematic and want to determine how to get your water clear again.

It’s unlikely that hard water on its own could cause substantial hair loss or damage, though it’s true that bathing in hard water can cause your scalp to feel itchy or flaky and might dull your hair’s natural shine. Using high-quality shampoo and conditioner or buying a whole-home water softener can decrease these issues.
