"I chose Carico Drywall because of his attention to detail, the fact he came out to give me an estimate, and the fact that he uses Union Drywall Installers. He was my 3rd bid in my buildout for my garage, and he was the highest bid by far. But the fact that he came to my house, met with me, explained and asked good genuine questions proved to me that he was the correct person to do the job. My garage is 1500sqft (30 ft deep , 50 ft wide) ceiling height is 18ft. At the peak, its roughly 22ft. I used R21 batting in the walls and 6 to 7 inches of open cell spray foam in the ceiling. The shop was drywalled with 5/16 inch drywall, no real need for anything thicker since the insulation keeps most sound dampened. I didnt tackle the drywall, because I felt like that would have taken me forever. Would i recommend Carico to do more projects? Yes I would."

"If you are looking for a painting company and/or some remodeling help - I have a heck of a recommendation for you. Zach Sciarratta with Premium Painting was an absolute lifesaver for us. At the beginning of this month, my mom sold her home of 48 years and bought a house across the street from me. We were hoping to get her new home renovated in time so she could move in for Christmas. Zach and his team did an outstanding job. They painted the interior which included the vaulted ceilings, an atrium back wall, plus all the walls, molding, doors, window trim, etc. They showed up on time every day, were so sweet to my 90-year-old mother, cleaned up after themselves, and went above and beyond throughout the job. When the appliance guy installing new double ovens didn't have the tools to complete the install and were going to have to come back, Zach and his team stepped in to fix it and also trimmed it out when finished. Zach's team also installed a dishwasher, new lighting (including a new chandelier in the 2-story atrium), patched some ceiling cracks, and painted a two-story fireplace to give it a much need, updated look. Not only did he finish in time for my mom to move in before the holidays, but he had 8 of his painters show up to finish painting the exterior on one of our warm December days. I'm pretty picky and can honestly say that there was nothing that I had to ask them to re-do. They were on top of things, doing it the right way the first time - which was so appreciated. In fact, when we had started to move my mom in, we managed to accidentally gouge up a wall pretty bad. I'm thinking, these guys have done so much, I hate to ask them to fix it. Maybe it was a good spot to hang a picture??? Zach took one look at the wall and insisted on fixing it. Soooo, if you or someone you know is looking for a great painting/remodeling company, you should definitely give Zach a call at (314) 853-7372."

"I hired Steven to help me replace some interior doors and jams. He is very personable, professional, and did a quality job at a fair price. So based on all that I just had him back to remodel the front of my garage by taking out one 16" door and framing out for two 9" doors. Again, a nice job in a timely manner which was important because the front of my garage had to be open for a few days. Now I am talking to him about a front & rear deck project I am planning out."

Drywall questions, answered by experts

Yes, it is possible to rewire a house without removing the drywall, but this doesn’t work in all homes. You can pull out old wires and insert new ones if you have access to the wiring system via the ceiling or through a crawl space. Some pros can also use a magnetic kit to fish the old wire out of the wall through a hole cavity and install the new wires. Just keep in mind that doing this is less stable than removing drywall, as you won’t be able to staple the wires into the framing.

If you already have plaster walls and ceilings, adding new plaster costs $2 to $10 per square foot. For an average-sized room, that would come out to $1,200 to $10,000. However, the cost to replace plaster with drywall is higher—running between $720 and $1,250 for a 10-by-8-foot wall or ceiling (not including drywall finishing).

It’s highly recommended to use studs for a TV mount. The last thing you want is to be watching your favorite show when the TV falls off the wall. Studs are much stronger than drywall and quite a bit stronger than drywall anchors but, if you can’t find the studs or there simply aren’t any where you need them, you can use drywall anchors. It’s extremely important to make sure the anchors are rated for the load of the TV. We recommend using anchors that are rated far beyond the weight of whatever you’re hanging. Our suggestion is metal drywall toggle anchors.

The cost to texture drywall depends on whether you want to do the work yourself or hire a professional. The cost of the drywall mud is far lower than labor costs for applying it. The labor cost to spray drywall compound onto a wall is between $0.80 and $1.50 per square foot, while you’ll pay between $1.50 and $2 per square foot for the labor to apply the texture by hand.

You should stagger drywall sheets to help prevent cracking. The joints between drywall sheets are the weak spots, so if you install drywall with seams aligned, you’ll create weak lines that run across the length of the wall and extend from floor to ceiling. But when you stagger drywall, the solid sections of panels will support the joints. This can prevent seams from cracking or separating due to fluctuating temperature and humidity, vibrations from movement inside the home, and gravity.
