"I called because I had a sewer gas smell in the house and wasn't sure from where it was coming.  LJ showed up on time and we were able to determine the smell was coming from one of the toilets.  After pulling the toilet, he found that it had not been installed properly before.  He replaced the wax ring and spacers and re-seated the toilet.  Presto!  The nasty smell is gone!  LJ is courteous and professional, I would definitely use this company again.

"The new Anthony service plan includes plumbing which also includes bursting, cooling, and electrical annual service. It is well worth the cost and their technicians are always first rate! Today the inspected two sump pumps, five toilets, and cleaned my tankless water heater. Also adjusted two if the toilets."

"They found and repaired the leak in my laundry room ceiling. The cause was Master Bedroom's bathroom toilet was leaking around the flange because it was not secured correctly during the remodel. (I need to right a review on Four Seasons Remodeling ?). So they reset the toilet and repaired flange in an hour. They are quick, honest, and knowledgeable. Great service"

Toilets questions, answered by experts

The normal water level in a toilet bowl is about halfway full. The water should sit above the P trap drain because this creates a seal and suction. When you flush the toilet, the suction keeps sewer gases from entering your house through your toilet. Anytime the water level is higher or lower than half full, you need to make adjustments or replace broken parts.

Sealant doesn’t need to be applied to the bolts, but it can be a good way to stop an active leak in the moment. However, don’t rely on it as a cure-all; instead, make sure to fix the problem at the source by changing or tightening the bolts.

If you do use sealant, make sure to spread it thickly and evenly across the bolts and the tank's porcelain.

If you notice that your toilet is leaking puddles near the base, the leak is coming from your toilet bowl, and the water could be unsanitary. This is a situation that needs to be dealt with immediately—call a nearby plumbing repair pro right away. A contained leak from tank to bowl is not as urgent a situation, but it could be raising the cost of your water bill—have it looked at as soon as you can.

Even if you’re not very handy, DIY toilet repair is something many people can handle. However, that doesn’t mean that every repair project is something to try to take on yourself.

On paper, replacing a toilet flange is rather straightforward. However, it requires heavy lifting and critical thinking, especially if things don’t go according to plan.

If your toilet is still leaking after replacing the toilet flapper, then you may not have installed the toilet flapper correctly. Double-check that you have placed the flapper over the overflow tube correctly, and check the flapper chain is at the right length. If your toilet is still leaking, then you may have another problem on hand. For example, you may need to replace the toilet wax ring or replace the toilet fill valve if your toilet is wobbly and leaking from around the base.
