"The owner of Atlas Foundations assessed my 75 year old home that had a wet basement with every rain since I purchased it in 2020. I compared his recommendation to 4 other foundation repair companies and chose to go with Atlas for their fair price, knowledge on the matter, good reviews & responsiveness. Although I could not wait to get this repair behind me so I could settle into my home completely, reduce mold exposure and not come home from work after a rainy day to shop vac water from the floor, I dreaded this week long repair. The foreman, James Watson and his crew showed up every day on time or early, patiently answered any and all of my questions, accommodated my smallest requests and made this stressful home repair go smoothly. My project included exterior excavation, exterior drain placement and carbon fiber straps inside. I admit that I am a picky clean freak and they guys did a nice job cleaning up behind themselves and were respectful of my property. I thoroughly interviewed 4 other foundation companies most of whom could get to my costly job "pretty quickly." Atlas had a 4 month wait and I am glad I waited. In my opinion, Woods Basement System, and Helitech Waterproofing are high pressure young sales people who want to "patch" a foundation issue rather than resolve it. Danneger & Son's Foundation was my next choice based on experience & reputation, but they wanted to charge TWICE what Atlas Foundations did. And the good news is, it rained for a week after Atlas Foundations did my repair & I have not had 1 drop of water in my basement. Thank you Atlas Foundations, Mike, Kim & James and crew!"

"Maplewood Plumbing was the 2nd company I called to replace a garbage disposal after the first company was blatantly trying to rip me off. The plumber they sent was on time, friendly, honest (he didn't try to upsell me models) and was less than a third the price of the 1st company I had called. Thankful for a company I can trust, I will absolutely use them again in the future!"

"Jason from Quacker's arrived ON TIME to repair the foundation crack. He took a look at it, and told me that it was a minor crack. Jason told me to go to the hardware store and buy a $5.00 tube of caulk and seal it up myself. Instead of charging me for a professional repair that I didn't need, he TOLD ME THE TRUTH and saved me a ton of money! Quacker's has earned my trust. If I need any of the services that they offer, I *will* call them again!"

"I hired permajack due to a recommendation from my concrete guy. My foundation was sinking all around the perimeter. They offered a permanent solution and delivered. This was not a fun purchase but it was very necessary. Foundation repair is expensive, so Im pleased that these guys were on time, experienced and pleasant to work with. They cleaned up after themselves and the President of the company called me to follow up to make sure everything was delivered as promised. I highly recommend them. They were professional, respectful of my property and didnâ t waste my time. This can be rare in construction these days. Good well done!"

"We had the front porch replaced earlier this year and the concrete folks flattened the front of the yard. Water really pooled in the front. In addition, we had an old timber/brick retaining wall that was falling apart on the side, and a very step hill to go to the side of the house that was difficult to traverse.
Tom's crew regraded the yard in the front, bringing in dirt to create a grade away from the house, towards the middle of the yard where it can safely flow to the side. He then laid new sod down over the graded area, except for the row right next to the house, where we'll plant next year.
They also put in drainage tile (PVC pipe and new connectors) for the front porch drainage, leading these way off to the side terminated in a pop up.
The crew installed five extremely heavy, attractive natural stone steps into the hill leading to the side of the house so we can now much more easily walk to the side. In addition, they replaced the old retaining wall with a really pretty Versa Lok retaining wall. Tom specifically suggested this Versa Lok design, and he was so right. We like it so much we'll eventually use it when we replace the retaining wall in the back.
They put in good drainage for it, too. That wall is not going anywhere.
Lastly, they filled the areas with top soil, which will make planting so much easier next year.
Tom is a busy guy, so it took a couple of months before he could start. It's worth the wait, though, because Tom really knows his stuff, and his crew is very hard working and capable. Tom's prices are also affordable, I feel we received good value for our money.
Most importantly, when we had a couple of minor fixes (the connector to one of the porch downspouts leaked, and the soil under the sod wasn't as firmly packed as we wanted before the freeze hits), Tom sent his foreman out within a few days to fix the spout and run a roller over the grass. It matters when a contractor follows up if you need fixes to work.
Tom's outfit will be our landscaper from this point on.

"We built our house 20 years ago. We discovered the master bathtub was leaking to our family room. Glenn tried to just reseal the drain but found our builder used the wrong materials and didn't properly configure it. Glenn apologized for having to cut the ceiling to get to the pipe that needed to be replaced but finished the repair quickly and cleaned up everything. I would definitely recommend Glenn at Hosack Plumbing to anyone needing plumbing help."

Foundation Drain Installation questions, answered by experts

The difference between an ejector pump and a sump pump lies in their purpose and design—an ejector pump functions to remove liquid gray water and soft solid sewage waste from your home. If you have a laundry room or bathroom in your basement, an ejector pump for your sewage tank prevents sewage from backing up in your washing machine or bathroom’s drains.

A sump pump is designed to remove excess groundwater that may enter your home, either due to flooding or periods of heavy rain.

If your basement often leaks after heavy rain, it’s probably caused by hydrostatic pressure. When the ground is saturated with water, it can put pressure on the exterior of your home’s foundation, causing cracks in the basement wall and pushing water through any existing weak spots. Over time, hydrostatic pressure can cause structural damage to your home.

Whether to waterproof your basement from the interior or exterior depends on several factors, including your budget.

Exterior waterproofing is generally considered the superior method because it stops water at the source, preventing it from seeping into and damaging your basement walls. This approach offers the most protection, making it ideal if you use your basement for storage.

By contrast, interior waterproofing is often less expensive and requires less labor because the area is more accessible.

For maximum protection against water leakage and moisture, applying waterproofing measures to both the inside and outside is the best solution. However, if you must choose only one, stopping water from the outside is the most effective approach to preserve your foundation and prevent damage.

Thankfully, you do have a few sump pump backup options in case it fails. One option is a battery-powered backup sump pump. Another option is using a portable backup generator as a power supply for your sump pump. Unlike a battery-powered backup which has limited power, a generator can run around the clock for as long as you need it.

Or you can opt for a water-powered backup pump, which uses your home’s water supply as a source of power. However, this may not be the best option if you find your house frequently has low water pressure.

It depends on what caused your basement flooding, the extent of the problem, and the risk of the flood continuing. If your flood is coming from a septic system or sewer line, breathing in the sewer gasses can be dangerous, so you should vacate. If the flood occurs from an ongoing natural disaster, relocating to a safe area might be wise. If you just have a plumbing leak or rainwater coming in, you can likely stay in the house if you don’t have electrical lines down there, but make sure you call in professionals to fix the issue immediately.
