"I hired Jack to install over 1,500 feet of gravel road and to clear several acres of heavy brush on our property. His work is excellent and his pricing is very fair and reasonable. I am very satisfied."

"We have some property that was very overgrown with brush, thick nasty trees and old fence rows. We hired B & M Landworks to come clear it off. They were very prompt in responding and we communicated well. They finished the project in a very timely manor. We were so pleased with the work, we hired them to come again and work it over with bulldozing. He smoothed everything out so nice. He also cleared a pond a dam for us. He is willing to do anything you ask. I would definitely hire him again."

Excavating questions, answered by experts

To determine whether your homeowners' insurance will cover crawl space repair, consider the cause of the issue. Repair may be covered if the problems were caused by an event that the insurance covers, such as vandalism or a windstorm. However, companies won't cover the repair if the issues are caused by neglect or wear and tear.

Preparation involves site assessment, clearing debris, grading surfaces, and compacting soil to support stable construction.

A walk-behind trencher can cut through roots as long as they’re not too thick, making a project much easier than digging with a shovel and other hand tools. Assess your terrain and the number of trees in the surrounding area to determine if a walk-behind trencher will ease the job. Digging a trench by hand is much more time-consuming and labor-intensive.

Slab foundations are more affordable than crawl spaces because they require minimal excavation, as the slab sits directly on the ground or on footers that only sink a few feet into the ground. Crawl spaces require excavation of the entire footprint of the home to several feet below the surface. Not only does that mean higher labor costs, but more materials are necessary for the concrete foundation walls.

Landscape edging is more DIYable than trenching. You can DIY your own digging projects, but proceed carefully and only with proper knowledge of the equipment and appropriate safety measures in place. Keep in mind the project's scope and estimate how long it will take you to do it on your own. While you can certainly save money by DIYing home improvement projects, you can’t exactly hide an unfinished—or worse, ruined— landscaping job from the neighbors. It’s always safer to call an excavation pro near you to get an estimate.
