"Paul hired the person to plant 6 arborvitae..one planted crooked and two over my property line, three died and no response back after he promised to replant 3 more where the dead ones were. No soil amendment, no mulch applied after planting and the roots appeared diseased when I pulled them out. They were over 5 feet tall trees when planted and did not last a year. Paul failed to follow through with his promise to guarantee his work. Would not recommend."

I have never seen a more beautiful shower! Lines straight and squared. They even made sure the rocks on the tile floor were even!!! "We got quoted to add a bathroom and small bedroom in our basement. In the contract, it said it would take 4 weeks to finish the job, with a stated number of hours worked per week that they never came close to acheiving. Most days they either didn't show up, or only worked a couple hours. They often said they would show up in the morning, and would cancel or not show up til around noon. They installed a shower with the walls on the wrong side and numerous other problems. They didn't even know that the water line for the toilet goes on the left side, not the right. They built a wall that they said would be flush to the existing wall, and was flush at one end, with a 1 inch gap at the other. Their plan for putting in an egress window was completely stupid. And they wanted to put in a 5 inch riser for a sanipro toilet, when there was not supposed to be one. A quick youtube search showed the proper way to install it. They told us they didn't need to pull permits. We were later told by the inspector that they should have and he recommended that we contact a lawyer because their work was completely unacceptable. We fired them after 2 weeks, he kept the down payment money that we gave him, and we have to pay another contractor to fix their work and finish the job."

DIY is possible, but professional installation ensures proper leveling, drainage, and durability.

On average, concrete costs less than pavers for the same project. Standard broom-finished concrete costs from $2 to $15 per square foot. Stamped concrete costs between $8 to $28 per square foot. On the other hand, pavers cost from $8 to $50 per square foot. For any of these materials, the cost depends on which concrete finish or paver you choose. Keep in mind that the layout complexity, amount of site preparation, and location factor into the cost, too.

Professional installers often include a deep layer of crushed gravel under permeable pavers to allow more runoff to soak through into the soil below. Many installations will include multiple layers of gravel, with coarser aggregate at the base and finer aggregate that sits on top of that bottom layer. Above the gravel, you’ll often find coarse sand that helps reduce paver shifting over time. Some permeable paver designs include a water collection system set into the gravel layer to route runoff to a safe area for disposal.

Pea gravel can be used as a base for a paver patio, but it’s not the preferred choice. Because it is small and round, pea gravel moves much more easily than other base options, like crushed stone, so it won’t keep your pavers in place properly. 

If you do opt for pea gravel, compact it well and use an additional binding agent (like stone dust) to keep everything from shifting.

Driveways should be sloped with a minimum 2% slope—anything lower will cause precipitation and runoff to collect. A 2% slope is the equivalent of a 2-foot rise over 100 feet. One quick way to check the integrity of your driveway’s slope: no more than four inches of water should collect on the surface longer than 15 minutes after rain.
