"After I requested for a quote on Angi's, Josh (the owner) called me right away and sent the estimates by email. He was very prompt in replying to all my email inquires which was really great.. The estimate I received was very reasonable. Setting up an appointment was a breeze. The guys who came to do the work (Tony and Jack) were both amazing.. very professional and courteous, they worked meticulously and did a thorough job, explaining what needed to be done and even offered advise on location of some of the new recess lights (which was extremely helpful). Would highly recommend Voltron Power to all my friends and neighbors for any electrical work..!!! Five stars.. :)"

"Joshua came to my home because I’ve lost power in parts of my home. He took a look at my homes electrical system and then we sat down where he explained the issue to me. He worked hard and even pulled a permit for the job and because of his hard work my home has all of its power back on."

Sometimes you open up an outlet and you find this. I am glad that it did not turn into something more.

"Writer is a true professional and electrical guru. He arrived within the allotted time frame, got right to work and quickly identified the problem. He even welcomed me to watch him while he worked as he explained the intricacies of the electrical outlet (which was a GFCI multi-branched oulet, connected to other garage and bathroom outlets). It was clear he knew what he was doing. I would recommend him for any electrical problem or fresh installation, and plan to hire him in the future for other electrical projects I have around my house."

Electrical questions, answered by experts

New Royal Oak homeowners should prioritize a panel inspection, GFCI outlet installation in kitchens and baths, and updating smoke detectors to meet Michigan safety codes. Assess the home’s grounding system, add outlets for modern devices, and consider dedicated circuits for appliances. Upgrading basement or garage lighting and preparing for electric vehicle charging can also improve safety and convenience in your new home.

Helpful?

When hiring electrical pros in Royal Oak, look for contractors with experience in local home styles, especially older or historic properties. Ask for references from recent projects in the area and confirm they carry proper insurance. Compare several written estimates, and ensure your pro will handle permits and inspections. Avoid anyone requesting full payment upfront, and prioritize those with strong community reviews.

Helpful?

For electrical projects in Royal Oak, start by verifying local permit requirements, as most updates need city approval. Schedule utility marking before any digging, and coordinate with local utilities if service upgrades are needed. Plan work outside peak construction months to avoid delays, keep detailed records of your electrical system, and inform neighbors about exterior work to help minimize disruptions.

Helpful?

In Royal Oak, homes built before 1950 often feature plaster walls, finished attics, or original knob-and-tube wiring, which can complicate electrical upgrades. Multi-level layouts, additions with inconsistent wiring, and historic bungalows with limited access points may require creative routing. If your home has unique room shapes or older electrical panels, expect extra planning and possible hidden challenges during electrical projects.

Helpful?

Completing electrical upgrades in Royal Oak can enhance your home’s value and attract buyers. Modern panels, updated wiring, and smart home features support today’s technology needs and home offices. Buyers appreciate documented improvements and energy-efficient upgrades, which reduce safety concerns and help with inspections. These updates can set your property apart in Royal Oak’s competitive real estate market.
