"This is the third time that I have used Streamline Electric and I am very happy with their work. This time we had a Washer and dryer installation in a closet. As always Chad was on time and great to work with. I appreciate the woman who does the scheduling also she really works with us and that helps when you have tenants. Great job all around."

"After I requested for a quote on Angi's, Josh (the owner) called me right away and sent the estimates by email. He was very prompt in replying to all my email inquires which was really great.. The estimate I received was very reasonable. Setting up an appointment was a breeze. The guys who came to do the work (Tony and Jack) were both amazing.. very professional and courteous, they worked meticulously and did a thorough job, explaining what needed to be done and even offered advise on location of some of the new recess lights (which was extremely helpful). Would highly recommend Voltron Power to all my friends and neighbors for any electrical work..!!! Five stars.. :)"

"Joshua came to my home because I’ve lost power in parts of my home. He took a look at my homes electrical system and then we sat down where he explained the issue to me. He worked hard and even pulled a permit for the job and because of his hard work my home has all of its power back on."

Sometimes you open up an outlet and you find this. I am glad that it did not turn into something more.

"My husband and I are very impressed with Metro Electric. Mark, who is a Master electrician, and Nick were professional and knowledgable. They were on-time and wore booties over their shoes which I very much appreciated. They replaced two ceiling lamps, replaced 10 outlets and a dimmer switch among other tasks that neither my husband and I could tackle on our own. They even informed me that our smoke detectors are too old and should be replaced - something I hadn't even thought about. Whenever I called the office, Katie has been extremely helpful and accommodating to our project needs. We will definitely hire Metro Electric again."

Electrical questions, answered by experts

You can run a small or basic standard-size refrigerator on a 15-amp circuit. But you should plug a modern, standard-size refrigerator into a 20-amp dedicated circuit. The refrigerator needs to be on a dedicated circuit, meaning it is the only appliance and outlet on that circuit breaker. This method prevents tripping the breaker and reduces the chance of an electrical fire

You can have power but no lights if the light switch is damaged. A damaged light switch is often caused by regular wear and tear or loose wires. In addition, simple problems such as a burnt-out light bulb or an unplugged lamp could be the cause of not having working lights.

Timers work by using an internal switch to turn power on or off to the cord plugged into it. Just the same way that a light switch turns lights on and off, the timer throws the switch at the programmed times.

No, there aren’t additional code requirements for kitchen lights. Kitchen lights and other electrical circuits in the kitchen have different code requirements. Outlets need to be particularly robust because of their frequency of use and proximity to liquids. If you need help determining where to install outlets in your kitchen, consult a local electrician who can ensure that placement is functional and up to code.

It can be safe to buy or live in a house with knob and tube (K&T) wiring, but only if the system is in good condition, functional, and has been thoroughly inspected and approved by a licensed electrician. Never purchase a home with K&T wiring without getting a professional electrical inspection first.

Key considerations include:

  • Safety and Condition: An inspector will verify that the wiring is safe and has not deteriorated. Over time, the insulation can wear away, leaving exposed wires that pose a significant fire or shock hazard.

  • System Capacity: The electrical service should be at least 60 amps. However, even at this capacity, K&T systems often struggle to handle the demands of modern appliances and electronics.

  • Lack of Grounding: Knob and tube wiring is an ungrounded system, which is a safety concern for many modern devices.

  • Ongoing Maintenance: If you live in a home with K&T wiring, it's recommended to have it inspected by an electrician every one to two years to ensure it remains in safe working order.

Ultimately, any inspection or modification of a knob and tube system should always be performed by a certified professional.
