"Mark and his team did an excellent job finishing our basement. He was sure to explain the job including making sure we were aware of any situations that may arise to affect cost. We weren’t looking for the Cadillac of basements and didn’t want to break the bank and I feel as though they understood this and quoted accordingly. Kept in communication with me via text. Helped prompt us for any items we needed to have for him. During the job the basement experienced some flooding and Mark was able to pause work, quickly secure another company to help take care of the flooding, and then get back to it. The job took some time, but within reason given the scale of the project and some of the delays due to the flooding. The results really reflected the vision we had for the basement and looks amazing. I’m already planning on hiring Mark and his team for some other projects. My only criticism would be that more proactive communication of work plans and needs would have been helpful so we remained in the loop. But again, this was overall a great experience. I’ve included some pictures, although regrettably I have no before pictures. Bottom line is I would always recommend New Image and have to my friends."

"When we signed the Matrix contract in June 28,2018 for basement work we were told it would be done the end of October or the first of November 2018. We told them that was good because we go to Arizona the end of December 2018. When we left all that was done was rough: framing, plumbing, electrical and ceiling. In May 2019 Matrix started work again and finally June 17, 2019 the final inspection was done. If Matrix overbooked jobs, Matrix should let the customer the customer know and not leave them hanging. Being overbooked was probably why the drywall job and the soffit run to cover the ceiling beam was less than professional. We give the following grades: grade A to the project manager, the other work teams. grade C to Matrix as a company. Thank you, Jack and Bonnie Childs"

"They were great, the man did the job, got out. In the winter, when lot of snow was still in the ground of water against the basement and we have a poured foundation, it had leak, they had stopped the leak we had. They did what they pledged to do. They were here on-time, they got done quickly and then they went and the overall seam link that was leaking was about 7 feet from upper part down to the ground, and we are very happy. They did the work they promised to do on time and on budget."

"It was fine. The original design didn’t meet my needs based on the information I provided them. However, they revised the plans which worked out better for me. They were able to get the first draft to me pretty quickly."

Basement Remodel questions, answered by experts

Yes, you can install a summer kitchen or kitchenette in your basement. They serve similar purposes as outdoor kitchens, keeping the main floor of the house cool and providing another space to cook and congregate. Basement kitchens are also a worthwhile alternative for homeowners without much space in the backyard. They come with a few logistical questions to sort out, though, like ventilation and waterproofing.

Anything having to do with the structure of your home, such as raising the ceiling, is usually the most expensive part of finishing a basement. Another project component that could be a surprisingly high expense is adding an exterior entrance.

The cost of a walkout basement can be anywhere from $5,000 to $35,000.

Adding an extension or addition to your home costs more than a loft conversion in all but the rarest cases where the home's structural integrity is lacking. Because a home addition requires a new foundation section or significant structural upgrades to handle a cantilevered portion, the cost compared to almost any loft conversion is significantly greater for the same square footage.

Renovations that add functionality or more comfortable floor space generally add the most value when remodeling your home. Attic or basement finishing can add floor space without altering the home's structure, saving you renovation money while adding valuable space. Smaller improvements, such as installing smart-home components or replacing entry doors and windows, also experience high ROIs.

Yes, you can add a bathroom to an unfinished basement, but you’ll want to take proper precautions if doing so. As with any bathroom addition, you’ll need to make sure that it’s approved by local building authorities first. With unfinished basements, you especially need to keep an eye on proper ventilation practices.
