"I contracted DeGain Masonry to do a paver patio in my back yard. The finished project turned out better than I could have ever expected… very precise and meticulous. Clint was quick to return my calls, started and finished the project when promised and was more than accommodating in every way. I am a particular customer with high expectations of those I hire. That being said, I would highly recommend DeGain Masonry."

"This company was spectacular. Gave me as many updates which is greatly appreciated when doing such a large job. Pricing was more than fair and the work is top tier. I’ve done over 1000 home renovations/Sales and met many contractors in my career. They are going to be my first call everytime moving forward."

"I contacted The Crack Team for foundation wall crack waterproofing after finding water near our utility lines and basement corner. They arrived on time, answered all my questions, and did clean work. What impressed me most was how respectful and honest the crew was throughout the whole process. The leaking stopped completely and the area looks great now."

"Very well. Pisani was the lower (40% lower) of two estimates I received from well-rated Angie List providers (the lower pricing may have been a special case because I had a small job which perhaps fit into the early spring weather which may limit the types of jobs masons can commit to). Gregg was easy to talk to and took the time to explain what was needed to do the job right. I was pleased that they schedule the job even earlier than I thought they could when we had temporary break in the rainy colder weather. His people came on time and were very professional and efficient in doing the job. I was very satisfied with the results. Gregg came at the end of the job to make sure I was satisfied and everything had been done right and in accordance with what we had agreed. Would have no hesitation considering to use them in future masonry work."

"The old deck was a mess, I am so glad I did not try to remove that beast myself. The Design One team worked around my whole house. Replaced front side walk, added a nice planter bed, added a side walk on the side (not flat cement), and put together a very nice stone patio in back. We are very happy with the work that the team performed. There was one stone that was out of stock this time of year and I plan on hiring the team back once this stone is available again for the back edge of the backyard."

Customers say: Quality work

"My experience with Milford Masonry & Building has been very positive. We hire them to repair our brick patio where we have some water accumulation issue, and front porch where we have several line cracks. The owner Jim Hart has great knowledge about Masonry works and very responsive to customer's needs and concerns. His team, Buddy McNaught and Vern Harris are easy to work with. They have very good attitude toward their work and are attentive to customer's interest. I appreciate their hard work and a job well done."

"Project leader - Art - was great to work with. Everyone associated with the project was low pressure and lived up to their commitments. 3 man crew show up on time, got done early, and cleaned up area before leaving. Only drawback was pricing but quality of the project helped offset higher cost."

Masonry questions, answered by experts

On average, a well-built brick mailbox can last between 30 and 100 years. The insert that holds mail inside the mailbox may last 15 to 25 years before it needs to be replaced. If a mailbox needs to be fixed due to damage, make sure you know who to hire for brick repair.

Stone can last anywhere from 15 to 100 years before it needs to be restored. You should clean your stone flooring or countertops regularly using cleaners designed for stone surfaces. Stay on top of vacuuming to prevent scratches from deteriorating stone faster, deep clean your stone surfaces using a pH-neutral cleaning solution at least once a year, and reseal the stone every one to five years, depending on foot traffic or usage.

Removing paint from brick can have both aesthetic and practical value. Some people prefer the timeless look of bare brick, making it worthwhile to remove old paint layers. Brick also lasts longer when unpainted, as paint traps moisture, causing the brick to deteriorate more quickly. If your brick walls are already in bad shape, stripping the paint off might do more harm than good.

Chimney mortar typically lasts 20 to 30 years, depending on its quality, local weather conditions, and maintenance. Over time, exposure to moisture, freezing, and thawing cycles can cause mortar to deteriorate, leading to cracks and gaps. Regular inspections and timely repairs, such as repointing or tuckpointing, can extend the lifespan of chimney mortar by ensuring the structure's integrity.

Drilling into brick or mortar requires the use of a masonry drill bit. Masonry drill bits appear similar to standard drill bits except for the leading tip of the bit. The tip has a bulky carbide arrow-shaped end slightly larger than the rest of the bit shaft. Standard or high-speed drill bits designed for making holes in wood or metal don’t have the ruggedness or design shape you need to drill into brick. They may not go through the brick at all, and if they do, they’re more likely to overheat, crack, or dull before you finish drilling.
