"Michael Brooks and his associate came on time for a schedule basement inspection. They were very thorough and explained their findings and advice. They also explained financing options. We decided on the AquaStop Basement Triple Sump Pump fitted to the existing drain tile. With a deposit on the day of inspection, we were also able to finance the remainder of the cost, which helps us get through tax time. On the day of the install, Jacob called as promised to advise us of their estimated arrival time. The crew, Jacob, Dustin, Cesar, and Jaden, were efficient and responsive to questions. They explained all they had done and how each control worked. And best of all, they left the basement super clean after the work was done. Well done, guys, and well done FSM. Thanks for the peace of mind."

"A++ Clog-Busters!! We called in the early morning and they were out to our house within a couple of hours. We will definately recommend this company to friends and family! Chris V., the plumber, who was professional and knowledgeable, came to our house and within an hour he had diagnosed, and de-clogged the main drain, and re-set the toilet. He also left our house clean of the debris pulled from the drain. Thank-you!"

"My old water heater had failed and All Around Plumbing was the only plumbing contractor that I cantacted that offered to come and install a new water heater the next day. They arrived in the morning and we had hot water shortly after dinner. They removed the old water heater and cleaned up any debris that they created."

"Everything went well. Joel actually showed up to my resident early. He did a overview of what I needed and did the job for a reasonable price. He was able to install a new sump pump for me, and it was done in a timely matter. I am very pleased with the service I received."

"He arrived on time, was professional and friendly, and got the job done efficiently and quickly. I'm sure he could tell I knew very little about plumbing overall but dealt with me fairly and didn't talk down to me. He also told me how to prevent the problem from happening again (by wrapping the external line in heat tape and foam insulation pipe) and inspected the rest of the basement to assess the overall health of the sump pump system. Estimates are *not* provided before service unless you ask for one."

"The companyâ s 24 hour service team responded very quickly and I was able to set up an appointment for that same afternoon. The replacement of my sump pump was done very quickly and the new installation was of a much higher quality. The cost was a bit higher than I had expected but in an emergency situation, there was no time for price comparison. Overall, I was very pleased with the service provided by Michigan Plumbing."

Sump Pump Installation questions, answered by experts

Several indicators suggest it's time for a sump pump replacement. A key factor is age; if the pump is over 10 years old, its lifespan is likely ending. Performance issues are also clear signs, such as the pump running constantly, cycling on and off frequently, making unusual noises or vibrations, or failing to function at all. A faulty or burnt-out motor is another definite sign a replacement is needed. Additionally, if you notice any signs of incorrect installation, the pump should be replaced. For a definitive diagnosis, a vetted plumber can assess the pump and confirm whether a replacement is necessary.

Sump pumps remove excess water from the lowest point of your home, which prevents flooding. When a sump pit fills with water, a sump pump pushes that water outside of the basin and into an exterior discharge pipe. From there, the water flows away from your home, so it doesn’t damage your foundation.

Common problems include motor failure, clogged discharge lines, and float switch malfunctions. Regular maintenance prevents many issues.

Submersible and pedestal sump pumps are two popular types of sump pumps. Submersible models are covered by water in a sump pit, which helps keep the motor cooler and quieter. Pedestal sump pumps stick out of the sump pit, so the motor stays dry and is easier to access. Submersible sump pumps are the pricier option, but they also have longer life spans.

The most common cause of a clogged sump pump is natural debris buildup. As water enters the sump pit, it can carry small pieces of debris that build up over time, or the debris can get caught in the filter. If you forget to cover the pit after cleaning the sump pump and pit, debris can also collect in the pit. Corrosion on the metal discharge pipe can also clog the pump. Additionally, if your pipes freeze, it can prevent water from draining properly and cause a clog.
