"They replaced a very large roof with complex hips and valleys. Roof was damaged due to hail. Their bid was not the lowest and not the highest, but within the insurance coverage. They were prompt and professional with the scheduling. They showed up on time and worked late into the evening every day. They estimated the job at 3 days for the roof plus an additional day for gutters. They completed the work on schedule and with excellent quality. They cleaned up every day and left nothing behind after the work was completed. Payment terms were reasonable and accommodated the insurance process."

"I hired Moses Williamson to clear my gutters and downspouts. His crew noticed cement debris laying on the roof. Moses inspected the damage and it turned out I had a damaged chimney crown that required replacement. In addition, the brick chimney needed tuckpointing in several places to refill the mortar joints. His crew replaced the cement crown, tuckpointed the chimney, and applied a clear sealer over the entire surface. Based on Mosesâ recommendation I agreed to have the brick facade spot tuckpointed and sealed. In truth I had previously noticed small spots of missing mortar on the brick front but had simply put off addressing. I found Moses to be knowledgeable, professional and friendly. He showed me photos of the crown damage, and patiently answered my many questions. And yes, the gutters and downspouts were cleared. I highly recommend Moses Williamson for gutter and roofing maintenance and repair services."

"This is part B on my Total Roof Overhaul, which began in 2011.  Griffin replaced the rest of my main house roof. It has been two years since the main roof redo so when I say the roof has held up well through some truly horrific weather, I am definitely speaking from experience. Griffin started part A of my reroof in October 2011 and fixed what was a major, horrible leak in one section of my complicated roof.  A few months after that, to my horror, I discovered the flat roof on our 1904 Victorian began leaking (this was not the section Griffin had repaired earlier).  I laid tarps out in the attic and called Griffin immediately. We had to start Part B a little sooner than anticipated. The old rubber flat roof had given out (if you read my part A review you can see that many other roofing companies didn't think that the whole roof needed to be replaced. Well, they were wrong to say the least). Matt Hoffman came out and they got to work, uncovering some really unfortunate things. The gutters were a disaster, literally dangling off the house and the water was getting under the roof and had rotted several supporting beams. Matt suggested sistering the beams with new wood, replacing everything that had to be replaced and getting new gutters for the main house. We went with copper to match the valleys and flashing. They built copper chimney crickets in back of my newly rebuilt chimneys and added copper valleys where needed in the roof. The work took three weeks and my husband and I had to laugh that a new house being built down the street went up faster than our roof job. Just goes to show you the kind of craftsmanship that passes for "new construction" these days. W.E. Griffin stands by the quality of their work. About a year after the roof was replaced, I noticed what looked like a leak under what was a vent pipe in the bathroom. I called Matt and he sent someone out instantly who replaced the pipe collar. However, Matt came over to follow up and be sure that was really the issue?.and it turned out the pipe itself, when installed, was never sealed and was leaking. Matt had someone seal my pipes too. It has been a year and no problems since. This is the kind of quality follow-up you can expect.  The roof now matches the house in terms of being ironclad. I remember one high rated roofing company telling me (Once I explained that I was trying to decide between their services and Griffin's) "Well, I mean you don't need your roof to be a fortress!" after I wondered why he wasn't recommending certain things (valleys, for example). Er?..yes, in fact, I DO want my roof to be a fortress. The weather events lately have reinforced that notion. Anyway, it's time to start part C of the roof (porches, breezeway, garage) and that's happening soon. I feel confident that I'm in for another satisfying experience which I will review when it is done and some time has passed.

"I had gutter helmet installed 20 years ago and it has been a lifesaver - no gutter cleaning! My house backs up to woods, so lots of tall trees, leaves and pollen. With gutters at 2 and 3 stories, cleaning was necessary, but expensive before Gutter Helmet installation. Today, I had a section of helmet repaired due to damage from a fallen limb. The repair crew was great. They made the necessary repairs and cleaned and checked the gutters on the rest of the house. Gutter Helmet works great and in the event of problems the company is very responsive."

"Home Genius Exteriors replaced and disposed of my gutters, downspouts, gutter guards, and fixed facia where it was damaged, with a complete replacement system, all within 24 hours from my first meeting with them. Their service was professional, work crew was personable and left no evidence of being on my property except for, the awesome new gutter system on my house. Seriously, if I wouldn't have seen them doing the work, you wouldn't know they were there, it was like a Home Makeover reveal or something - the whole experience impressed me and I'm skeptical to a fault. The best statement I can say is, while my Wife and I were walking around our house, she smiled and said, "I can't wait for it to rain!" I can't either. Thanks HGE."

"Winfield Enterprises did gutter work (gutter installation) on my home (a 3,000 square foot home). It only took them about 4 hours to complete. The service was top notch, no complaints. The price and materials were far better than other quotes I received from other companies, and the job was done perfectly and within the expected time frame. Five stars for these guys."

"I hired them because of the quality of the supplies and the price. They cleaned up nicely and returned the next day to install the planned gutter replacement. The only item is some damage caused in my fairly new master bath shower. Somehow part of the wall pulled away causing a large gap at the ceiling and cracked grout along the sides. At the very least grout will need to be repaired. Working with Jeff Leach to see what can be done. The contract states that vibration damage is not the company's responsibility."

Gutter Repair and Replacement questions, answered by experts

Buried downspouts can freeze during cold weather as cold water runs through them. If you’ve discovered your downspouts are frozen, you can carefully pour hot water down the top of the downspout to defrost them. If that doesn’t work, you may need to dig your downspout back up. Avoid trying to break the ice from the exterior using a hammer as this can cause cracks and damage to your downspout.

To avoid freezing the future, consider adding a heating cable to the exterior, which can adjust heat based on the surrounding temperature.

Yes. Excessive pitch in gutters can cause water to flow too rapidly, leading to a decrease in the gutter's water-holding capacity; consequently, during heavy rainstorms, water may awkwardly splash outside the gutters. Ideally, you should aim for a quarter-inch of gutter slope for every 10 feet of gutter run. However, it's important to note that this guideline may vary depending on your home's structure and the type of gutters being installed.

Gutters should not drip at the seams. This problem could indicate that water is collecting in the gutters instead of moving to the downspouts. You could have leaves or other debris blocking the flow of water at the seams. Try cleaning the gutters, adjusting the slope, and sealing any holes or cracks in the material to fix this problem.

Unless you've chosen to install underground downspouts, your gutter downspouts shouldn't touch the ground. If they come into contact with the soil or pavement next to your home, rainwater can back up into them during a storm, preventing them from doing their job effectively. Instead, aim to have your downspouts end about 12 inches from the ground.

The cost to repair copper gutters typically ranges from $200 to $1,500. The final price is determined by the severity of the damage, current material costs, labor rates, and whether any additional reinforcements are needed for the repair.
