"We bought an Angie's List package for a garage door tune up. The person who came recommended we change the spring as it was too weak for the door's weight. After we made the change, the door is MUCH quieter to operate and water does not seep in the garage under the door as it used to. We are very satisfied with the services that were performed"

"We worked with Mason and his team at Sino-American to remove our existing chain link fence and broken iron gate and replace with a new wooden fence and custom built gate for our DC rowhouse. We coordinated with our next door neighbor who was getting the same work done and had worked with Mason before and they built both our fences and gates in teh same day. Mason was very professional and communicative throughout the entire process and produced top notch work that we are very happy with. Our project was unique and complicated given several obstacles including our existing ground level deck, our neighbor's property sitting a few feet higher than ours and a huge tree on the property line that posed some design challenges. Ultimately, Mason and his team came up with a great design that accomplished all of our objectives and looks great. We would recommend Sino-American to our friends and are already discussing future projects with them."

"lOscar and his team were extraordinarily good at what they do.  I HIGHLY recommend him and his company for any work you need done at your home.  We used them in this instance for the chimney repair, but they also do patio work, repave driveways, walkways, among many other things, and we will 100% be using them for any of our future needs in those areas.
While the price was perhaps a little bit higher than some of the other quotes we received, their professionalism and work ethic more than made up the difference.
We have 2 chimneys at our home.  We have lived there for almost 10 years now.  We had to replace the upper liner when we first moved in, as well as repair some of the brickwork.  I really wish we would have known about Metropolitan Chimney then.  We used a different company, Ashmasters, and their work was subpar.
The overall job was about 1 1/2 days in total.  Delayed a bit by mother nature.  The team was prompt on their arrival; completed a very dirty project in a very clean manner (i.e. no real dust, etc...) - the replaced bricks and mortar were exact matches.
Can not speak highly enough about Oscar and the rest of Metropolitan Chimney.  The most honest, hardworking guys I have come across.  Again, would recommend them 10 times out of 10.

Driveway Gates questions, answered by experts

Generally, the standard 10- to 12-inch-long and 1- to 1.5-inch-diameter gate springs will work. However, if you have an especially wide, thick, or heavy garden gate, you may need to opt for a longer, broader—and pricier—model to ensure secure closure and good longevity. These typically range between 12 and 16 inches long and are over 1.5 inches in diameter.

Your wooden gate post hole should be a third to a half of the height of the post. Also, note that the diameter of the post hole should be three times the diameter of the post. You should set the post in concrete to ensure a long-lasting and durable post that will withstand the test of time.

Hiring a reliable gate company starts by finding an installer with at least five years of experience in your area. This method will ensure they understand local laws and regulations and are familiar with the permitting process. You can also ask the following questions to ensure a smooth installation:

  • Have you worked with my gate material in the past?

  • Do you have customer references I can call?

  • Are you fully insured?

  • Will you pull the necessary permits for the installation?

  • Do you provide any kind of warranty for the gate’s functionality?

Screen doors (sometimes called barrier doors) and security doors serve different primary functions. A screen door's main purpose is to allow airflow and keep pests out, featuring a lightweight frame and a mesh screen. A security door, however, is a heavy-duty structure designed to prevent unauthorized entry. Security doors are installed with permanent screws into the home's walls and are often equipped with deadbolts or other heavy-duty locking mechanisms for enhanced protection against intruders.

Yes, most electric and automatic gates can be opened manually. They are equipped with a manual override or release mechanism that detaches the motor from the gate, allowing it to be moved by hand. This feature is essential during power outages or other emergencies.

To activate the manual override, you will typically need a specific key or tool. In some cases, you may also need a screwdriver to remove a cover to access the release mechanism. The use of a key is a common security measure to prevent unauthorized individuals from manually opening the gate.

Because every model is different, it is highly recommended to consult your gate's user manual to familiarize yourself with the specific procedure before you need to use it. Keep any necessary keys or tools in an accessible location. Be aware that automatic gates can be very heavy, so opening and closing them manually may be difficult.

In North America, electric gates are also subject to the UL 325 Standard for Safety, which includes provisions to allow emergency responders to access the property.
