"TR Granite & Stone Studio was amazing. From initial contact through installation took about a day and a half. We replaced the bamboo tops on our kitchen island and kitchen table with quartz and and they are beautiful. TR Granite operates as a well oiled machine with all staff from owner to measurement to installers knowledgeable, easy to work with and efficient. As well, they had the best price for this project. We couldn’t be more pleased the outcome."

"Omar's General Contracting received the bid when our hot water heater flooded our basement in 2018. From start to finish, the work was done well, and we are extremely happy with the finished basement. The quality workmanship is obvious even in the smallest details. Omar himself offered a range of options with different price points, but never pressured us to add on "extras." Omar's work crews were always helpful and polite, and were flexible enough to take our wishes into consideration where possible. The company obviously values safe work practices and kept the site clean and free of hazards and debris at all times. The subcontracted work was absolutely up to our specifications. We will hire Omar's again, and are happy to recommend this company to anyone."

"Juan and his team of diligent men and women were truly incredible! They were so kind and courteous to us and our entire neighborhood. We never heard a single complaint from our neighbors about the noise level or movement of trucks in and out of our small number of spots in the townhome community we just bought in. Juan and his team were incredibly meticulous and always thoughtful when deconstructing, reconstructing, or constructing all parts of our home. Their excellent craftsmanship was worth every penny we put into the renovations. It is an understatement to say they go above and beyond. We are beyond satisfied with their work. We love our new home thanks to Remodeling K&M!"

Marble and Granite questions, answered by experts

Engineered stone is nonporous, unlike natural stone, and does not need to be sealed. You do not have to worry about etching or bacterial growth. It is more durable than natural stone and concrete, as well as highly heat resistant. Engineered stone is easy to clean and maintain. You can wipe it down with warm water and soap. Use a non-scratch scrub pad for stains and avoid any harsh cleaners. Engineered stone can even be eco-friendly, with some manufacturers using waste byproducts or organic resins.

Yes, limestone often turns yellow over time when improperly cared for. The stone contains natural iron deposits, which can oxidize when exposed to water, acids, or harsh chemicals, such as bleach. Without exposure to water or chemicals, limestone should not turn yellow. Always seal limestone countertops to protect them from moisture, and only use gentle cleansers designed for stone.

Overall, granite tends to cost more than marble. Prices for each material will fluctuate depending on the source of the stone, your location, shipping costs, and the thickness of the material. Labor to install marble or granite countertops typically ranges from $35 to $45 per hour. Granite and marble tile and slab costs compare as follows:

  • Marble tile: $7–$10

  • Granite tile: $5–$15

  • Marble slab: $25–$60

  • Granite slab: $50–$100

While no countertop material is truly “heatproof,” granite countertops are extremely resistant to high temperatures. Some types of granite can withstand temperatures up to 1,200 degrees Fahrenheit. However, we don’t recommend placing hot pots and pans directly on granite countertops. Even if it doesn’t scar the granite, it may damage the sealant.

It all comes down to rarity and demand. Granite rocks with unique patterns or rare colorways like red, purple, and blue are more expensive than traditional designs. Some types of blue granite are extremely rare, like Azul Aran and Blue Bahia, driving the price up even further. The most expensive type of all is a unique design called Van Gogh granite. As the name suggests, it sort of looks like a painting.
