"The office staff was very helpful and patient with us in planning what we wanted for the countertops. The technicians and plumber who measured and installed were very professional and highly skilled with their work. Once the work began, it was only a few hours before the countertops and sink were in place and finished."

"MY HUSBAND AND I SHOPPED AROUND AT A NUMBER OF GRANITE YARDS AND DESIGNER SHOWROOMS TRYING TO FIND A COUNTERTOP WE BOTH LIKED. I WANTED SILESTONE, HE WANTED GRANITE. OUR CONTRACTOR HAD GIVEN US A DEADLINE AND WE WERE GETTING DOWN TO THE WIRE. ADI CORP WAS THE FIRST PLACE WE VISITED THAT NOT ONLY HELPED US WITH SELECTION OF A COLOR AND STONE THAT WE BOTH LIKED, BUT THEY WERE ABLE TO PROVIDE US WITH AN ACCURATE INITIAL ESTIMATE (BASED ON MEASUREMENTS WE PROVIDED). THEY CAME TO OUR HOME TO MEASURE OUR COUNTERTOP AND THEN PROVIDED A REVISED, MORE ACCURATE (BUT IN THE SAME BALLPARK) ESTIMATE. I WAS IMPRESSED WITH THE LEVEL OF SERVICE FROM ALL OF THE STAFF INCLUDING THE OWNER, SALES, STONE CUTTERS, AND INSTALLERS. THE PROCESS THEY USED TO CALCULATE THE COST WAS THOROUGH AND THERE WERE NO HIDDEN COSTS OR SURPRISES. I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND ADI. ALL OF THE STAFF WERE WONDERFUL."

Countertops and Backsplashes questions, answered by experts

Tile countertops can be an excellent and budget-friendly option for a kitchen, provided they are installed correctly. It's important to choose tiles, such as ceramic, that are heat-, water-, and scratch-resistant. When the grout is properly sealed, it will resist stains, making the surface easy to clean. Tile is also considered a sustainable material. For a cohesive kitchen design and added protection, you can pair a tile countertop with a matching tile backsplash.

Quartzite is more expensive than granite, largely because of its rarity. Granite is naturally more common. A granite slab generally costs $40 to $60 per square foot (excluding super-rare types), while quartzite slabs cost anywhere from $50 to $150 per square foot.

With both materials, it’s usually more affordable to purchase stones that are readily available in your location. You may need to import other stones, which come at a higher cost.

You don’t need a cutting board. In fact, cutting is the original purpose of butcher block countertops. That said, wood is porous and can harbor germs. You’ll need to clean your countertop thoroughly after use. Knives can also scratch the surface. This adds to the patina of the wood, but not everyone likes the look—in which case, you may want to use a cutting board.

Concrete and granite are both extremely durable materials. One isn’t necessarily better than the other. It depends on what you’re looking for. That said, granite is less costly and requires less maintenance. Furthermore, concrete is more prone to staining and cracking, though you can patch the cracks using a concrete patching compound.

You most likely purchased a quartz countertop because it won't stain or etch like marble. However, etching can still happen depending on the quality of the quartz and whether it is repeatedly cleaned with harsh chemicals or exposed to acidic spills. Remember, while quartz is more resistant than natural stone, just like Superman when faced with Kryptonite, it is not indestructible.
