"We used Pyramid to install quartz countertops in our kitchen, as well as a sink, faucet and garbage disposal (also used their subcontractor to install backsplash). This review is about the countertops and sink/faucet/disposal job-- we loved working with Bogi and the project came out beautifully. We didn't see the quartz we wanted in the Pyramid warehouse (although they had a great selection of granite and other stones), so Bogi suggested we look at MSI near Dulles. Bogi ordered the slabs we selected from MSI, coordinated the plumber to come when the counter top installers were ready for him, and even had them come back to clean up after the backsplash was installed by their subcontractor another day (he left some spilled grout on the countertop that we didn't notice until after he left.) The workers were clean, courteous and efficient."

Customers say: Quick response

"The day after thanksgiving and my dishwasher won't drain, the disposal is clogged. I called SAM and he interrupted his schedule to help me out. He replaced and corrected the clogging problems very quickly and in a professional manner. Outstanding service with a very reasonable price. Highly recommended, he knows what he's doing and won't gouge you financially, in a difficult situation."

"Javier and his crew were very professional and did a fantastic job. We already owned our granite countertops, but needed them cut to fit our kitchen cabinets, passthrough, and undermount sink. J&M Tile did beautiful work, were reasonably priced, and turned the work around in less than a week from our first communication. I couldn't be more pleased and would not hesitate to hire them again."

Small jobs welcome

"I was contacted shortly after submitting the HomeAdvisor request and held the in-home consultation soon afterward. Several good suggestions were made about what I might consider to remodel my small kitchen and the quote that followed contained very helpful renderings and detailed pricing. I found Power Marble to be very professional and I believed they were capable of doing a great job, but I ultimately chose another route because I found materials elsewhere I wanted to use instead of sourcing everything through them. I would still recommend that others consider contracting them for work."

"Working with usa marble & granite was a breeze. I came in looking to replace my 17 year old kitchen countertops with a specific budget in mind & had a very limited budget. Without any hesitation Frank at the showroom showed me all the available options for my budget including their wide variety of remnant selection as well. After my order, within a week the old countertops were removed and the new ones were installed. I am very satisfied in every aspect from their lovely people, speed, and quality of workmanship. I would recommend them to anyone looking to replace their countertops."

Countertops and Backsplashes questions, answered by experts

The timeline to install countertops largely depends on the materials and the job size. Installing granite countertops takes anywhere from two to seven hours, though complex designs can pass the eight hour mark. Average-sized quartz countertops take two to five hours to install, though most pros will recommend a 24-hour settling period. Marble, on the other hand, is finicky and can take up to two whole days to install. No matter how you slice it, however, a professional is going to complete the job much quicker than an amateur.

Yes, Corian® and other solid surface materials can be cut with standard woodworking tools, such as a circular saw or a jigsaw. However, it is crucial to use the correct type of blade to avoid damaging the material.

For a circular saw, a tungsten carbide-tipped blade is required; a triple chip grind blade is highly recommended. For a jigsaw, you should use a fine-tooth down-cutting blade. Do not use blades designed for cutting wood, as they can cause microfractures that weaken the edges of the countertop. A diamond blade is also unnecessary, as those are designed for harder materials like natural stone, which Corian is not.

After cutting, the edge will be rough. It is essential to sand and smooth the cut edge to prevent microfractures, which can eventually compromise the integrity of the countertop.

Concrete countertops should be sealed every one to three years, depending on the type of sealer used and the level of use your countertops get. For instance, hardworking kitchens will need yearly sealing. Sealing is important because it protects the surface from stains, moisture, and daily wear. Monitoring the countertop for signs of wear can help determine the ideal sealing schedule for your countertop.

It’s generally safe to use a Magic Eraser on quartz countertops. Magic Erasers are made from melamine foam, a gentle abrasive that can remove scratches and stains from various surfaces. Although using abrasive cleaners on quartz is not recommended, the melamine foam is gentle enough to remove minor stains and scratches without permanently damaging the quartz countertops.

Formica is a brand of laminate, so all Formica is laminate, but not all laminate is Formica. To identify it, look for a thin, plastic-like surface bonded to a wood or particleboard base. Formica often has branding on the underside. If you don’t see Formica, it could be Wilsonart, another familiar laminate brand. If the countertop is unique, you can visit the Formica site to find a match. Formica is known for creative collaborations that lead to unique design offerings.
