"Overall the job was done as requested.  The work crew showed up promptly, work efficiently and generally did what we asked.  I did, however, ask to have a gate installed on the other side of my deck to prevent our puppy from escaping there and they forgot about this request.  It took them about a week and a half, if I recall, to provide this for us which made the fenced in yard useless without a child gate.  They offered to pressure wash and stain the fence for an additional cost which we did not do.
Since that time, the fence has weathered just fine and appears to be solid and installed level.  Because of some settling the double door gate has shifted a little and does not close very well.  The black hardware has not weathered well, faded quite a bit and will require another paint job.  The small gate that was installed on the deck has been the most problematic, but that is partly our fault.  We asked them to build this as a temporary fix until we could come up with a more permanent solution (which we have not done yet.)  This small gate has never closed properly and the hardware keeps coming off.
Despite these minor problems I felt they did a pretty good job and asked them to come out recently to give us another quote on a major landscaping project.  Jared showed up yesterday to discuss this with me.  He was professional and had some helpful feedback about the project.  He will be emailing me a quote soon.

"Richard and his team did a great job. During the quote stage, Richard took the time to talk me through how they would install the fence and the things that would make it a quality fence that would stand the test of time. One of those things was having wood from a tree with a lot of rings, instead of a lot of pulp. I appreciated this insight and can see their attention to detail based on the wood they selected for my fence. They did a great job and everything is very level and solid. Everything was custom built on site, including the gate. We are very happy with the quality of the fence as well as the customer service and would definitely use them again."

"Mason and his team are great. This is the fourth project he has done for our house over the past 10 years and every time we are very impressed with the outcome. This project was a complete master bath gut and remodel including completely changing the footprint and expanding the size of the bathroom. There were unexpected challenges along the way regarding the existing structure and framing but Mason and his guys came up with solutions for everything and completed the project according to our vision. The project came out great and we have a wonderful new bathroom and large walk in master closet. I will hire again for any other projects that come up in the future"

Gate Repair questions, answered by experts

A Trex gate costs $750 plus another $200 for the hardware pack necessary for installation. By contrast, Trex fencing ranges in price from $22 to $38 per linear foot, so you may pay a lot or a little depending on just how much space you need to enclose in your yard.

Assuming the site is prepped and you have all the tools and materials ready, you should budget the better part of a day to build a driveway gate. This can depend on your DIY experience and which materials you’ve chosen, such as building from scratch or using a prefabricated option. The gate size and finishing touches, like painting or staining, can also add to the overall time budget.

You don’t need a permit for an automatic gate in most cities because it isn’t a structural change to your home, but you need to check. A pro can help you with this and since we don’t recommend installing an automatic gate yourself, you should already be in contact with one, making this a frictionless question. Outside of permit requirements, you need to consider your homeowners association (HOA), as some are against gated homes.

The most common cause of gate sensors not working is damaged wiring. Only a professional should diagnose this because it requires working with the system's electronics. There are safety concerns, but more than that, you don't want to accidentally short out your system or cause any electrical damage. Insects, rodents, and fallen branches are common reasons your wiring could become damaged.

The cost to install a gate varies widely, with a typical range between $1,500 and $7,000. The average cost is around $3,500. However, the final price can be as low as $200 for a simple gate or as high as $12,000 for a large, automated security gate.

Key factors that determine the installation cost include:

  • Gate Material: This is a primary cost factor. Chain-link and vinyl are the most affordable, while wood and PVC are mid-range options. Wrought iron, aluminum, and other metals are the most expensive materials.

  • Automation: Automated gates are significantly more expensive than manual ones because they require motors, sensors, controls, and electrical installation.

  • Size and Type: The dimensions and style of the gate (e.g., swinging vs. sliding) will impact the price.

  • Security Level: Gates with advanced security features will increase the overall cost.
