"Charlie Ornamental did an amazing job fixing my iron gate that has a broken latch. They were on time; complete the job quickly, and did it a very reasonable price. I would definitely recommend them!"

"Overall the job was done as requested.  The work crew showed up promptly, work efficiently and generally did what we asked.  I did, however, ask to have a gate installed on the other side of my deck to prevent our puppy from escaping there and they forgot about this request.  It took them about a week and a half, if I recall, to provide this for us which made the fenced in yard useless without a child gate.  They offered to pressure wash and stain the fence for an additional cost which we did not do.
Since that time, the fence has weathered just fine and appears to be solid and installed level.  Because of some settling the double door gate has shifted a little and does not close very well.  The black hardware has not weathered well, faded quite a bit and will require another paint job.  The small gate that was installed on the deck has been the most problematic, but that is partly our fault.  We asked them to build this as a temporary fix until we could come up with a more permanent solution (which we have not done yet.)  This small gate has never closed properly and the hardware keeps coming off.
Despite these minor problems I felt they did a pretty good job and asked them to come out recently to give us another quote on a major landscaping project.  Jared showed up yesterday to discuss this with me.  He was professional and had some helpful feedback about the project.  He will be emailing me a quote soon.

"Richard and his team did a great job. During the quote stage, Richard took the time to talk me through how they would install the fence and the things that would make it a quality fence that would stand the test of time. One of those things was having wood from a tree with a lot of rings, instead of a lot of pulp. I appreciated this insight and can see their attention to detail based on the wood they selected for my fence. They did a great job and everything is very level and solid. Everything was custom built on site, including the gate. We are very happy with the quality of the fence as well as the customer service and would definitely use them again."

"The company did a great job cleaning the chimney and inspecting everything.  Very professional, but the repairs sounded very pricey so we got other estimates and had it done for less.  I would use them again to clean my chimney.

"Mason and his team are great. This is the fourth project he has done for our house over the past 10 years and every time we are very impressed with the outcome. This project was a complete master bath gut and remodel including completely changing the footprint and expanding the size of the bathroom. There were unexpected challenges along the way regarding the existing structure and framing but Mason and his guys came up with solutions for everything and completed the project according to our vision. The project came out great and we have a wonderful new bathroom and large walk in master closet. I will hire again for any other projects that come up in the future"

"Great.  Good job, responsive, priced appropriately.  They repaired all drywall that they had to cut holes in and cleaned up after themselves.  Every time I call them for something I get the same consistently good service."

Gate Repair questions, answered by experts

The most common cause of gate sensors not working is damaged wiring. Only a professional should diagnose this because it requires working with the system's electronics. There are safety concerns, but more than that, you don't want to accidentally short out your system or cause any electrical damage. Insects, rodents, and fallen branches are common reasons your wiring could become damaged.

Hiring a reliable gate company starts by finding an installer with at least five years of experience in your area. This method will ensure they understand local laws and regulations and are familiar with the permitting process. You can also ask the following questions to ensure a smooth installation:

  • Have you worked with my gate material in the past?

  • Do you have customer references I can call?

  • Are you fully insured?

  • Will you pull the necessary permits for the installation?

  • Do you provide any kind of warranty for the gate’s functionality?

The obvious disadvantage of an automatic gate is that it runs on electricity. If the power goes out, it won’t open or close unless there’s a manual override. Many homeowners will need a backup generator so they don’t get stuck on either side of the gate, particularly when looking to park a vehicle. Automatic gates are also much more complicated than manual gates, with tech-heavy components that make them more expensive to repair.

Driveway gates can last anywhere from 10 to 30 years, depending on how well you maintain your gate, the material type, how frequently you use it, and whether you choose an automatic or manual gate. Automatic gates generally require more maintenance than manual gates due to their added sliding gate mechanisms, which can go out from frequent use.

In most cases, you will need a permit to install a new driveway or property gate. An exception might be if you are simply replacing an existing gate. Before issuing a permit, your local municipality may require a site plan or survey to verify property lines and prevent encroachment on a neighbor's property. Permits for a gate typically cost under $100. Be aware that corner properties may have additional restrictions on gate height or style. It's wise to confirm permit requirements with your local building department or your gate installation company, which can usually handle the entire permitting process for you.
