"I recently hired Nicolle because I needed a handyman/painter for a home improvement project for two bathrooms. Need drywall repair, skim coating, and paint due to damage from previous drywall removal. I couldn’t be happier with the results. Not only did he do an amazing job, but he also had the earliest availability, which was a huge plus for me. From start to finish, his work was professional and efficient. He paid attention to detail, ensuring that every corner was perfectly painted and that all repairs were done meticulously. The end result exceeded my expectations. If you’re looking for a reliable handyman/painter, I highly recommend this individual. His skills, punctuality, and commitment to quality make him stand out. I’ll definitely be reaching out to him for future projects!"

"I hired JW Home Improvement to remove wood filler and a microwave above my electric stove, and replace it with a pre-made cabinet and new range hood. Denis, the JW Technician who was sent to my home to conduct the work, was very professional, knowledgeable and detail oriented. Due to an unknown pre-existing issue that necessitated cutting into the dry wall in the bulk-head (above my stove), the job ended up taking approximately 3 hours longer than what was originally projected. That being said, Denis devised a successful solution to deal with the unexpected snag, repaired the drywall and expertly painted the entire wall. I am issuing a rating of five out of five stars for his performance."

"We had a great experience. I have a unique space in my garage. It doubles up as a gaming area. Melvin and his crew did a great job repairing the ceiling and then painting it. This allowed me to install a lighting system and to truly upgrade the space. I recommend this company."

"I called JES Foundation Company for a free inspection of my crawl space. I was concerned about a crack in my foundation wall. JES inspector Richard Sheman Showed up to inspect my foundation. He sent a text with the time of his arrival. He was pleasant and on time. He went into my crawlspace and inspected the crack in the wall and stated I had nothing to worry about. He was very knowledgeable about the foundation and itâ  s structure. He explain to me how I could fix the superficial settling crack and save a bunch of money. I appreciate the honesty of the business and I would recommend it to anyone who had the same concerns, and for any of their other services. Ron P Home owner."

"He is obviously a perfectionist who values making their customer happy. He completed some drywall repair for me to a bathroom ceiling. All the work was done in one day, and he came back the next to do the final sand and complete his cleanup. I'm very happy that I hired him and would recommend him in a heartbeat"

Wall Repair questions, answered by experts

Generally, a railroad tie retaining wall consisting of a single line of ties should be between 3 and 4 feet tall—and the height often tops out at around 6 feet. You can go taller, but you may need additional footings and reinforcements, including a second layer of railroad ties to support the added weight of the soil it’s holding back.

Proper design and construction prevent erosion and add structural stability to landscapes.

Railroad ties can be good for retaining walls, but it depends on the area. They have a desirable rustic look and are durable. The problem is they’re treated with creosote, a preservative the EPA says poses a risk to humans and wildlife. Over time, the preservative seeps out of the wood and into the ground. Many areas have banned the use of creosote-treated wood on residential properties. If your area does allow it, never use railroad ties near an edible garden or drinking water source. Instead, use wood that’s treated with an EPA-approved preservative or a wood-alternative composite material.

Poured concrete is often the cheapest material for a retaining wall, costing around $6 to $8 per square foot. Other budget-friendly options include vinyl and landscaping timbers, which range from $10 to $15 per square foot; landscaping timbers are particularly well-suited for DIY projects. Untreated timber and railroad ties are a step up in price, starting at $15 to $25 per square foot. Natural stones can also be a cost-effective choice if you can source them from your own property, but they can be expensive to purchase. High-end materials like steel are typically the most expensive but offer superior durability and aesthetics.

Yes, you can use cinder blocks for many purposes, including retaining walls, foundations, garage walls, and fences. Building a cinder block retaining wall costs between $60 and $200 per linear foot, including materials and professional labor. For a 30-foot-long retaining wall, the cost ranges from $1,800 to $6,000.
