"We had our 50-year-old failing asphalt driveway replaced with concrete by Maryland Curbscape in August 2022. Paul and his crew did a great job from planning to execution. It took one day to remove all the old material, pour the concrete and clean up. The job involved re-grading the entire slope of the driveway and the concrete was extended to provide an even transition into the garage. The crew was extremely professional, and their work was meticulous. We could not be happier with the overall experience."

"We hired Xtra Care to help us renovate our backyard, build a new deck, and install a new retaining wall, plus install some plants appropriate for the shade level of the yard, and build a walkway to address erosion of the soil along the side of our house. From our first encounter with Cleber, the owner, we were eager to work with them. Cleber had many ideas about how to better use the space we had (which wasn't much) and how we could accomplish our goals of having a space to sit, a space to eat, and a space to cook and grill outside. His enthusiasm and creative thinking helped us immensely. Angela's drawings and proposal arrived very promptly after our first conversation. We booked the 3D rendering as an additional option so we'd get a sense of what we were going to achieve with the space and their ideas. It was a smooth and interactive process; Angela took our questions and suggestions and modified the plans to better accommodate our goals, and I really appreciated the customer input form they include so they have a sense of what customers want before they begin. The process of digging out the yard, installing the new wall, the plants, and the deck, was addressed by three teams of people. CJ's team was taking on the hardscaping, and they were all meticulous with keeping the area as neat as possible, and with making sure the gates were closed afterward to keep our dogs inside. Diego's team installed the deck and demolished the old one, and I really appreciated that his crew reattached the old side stairs from the old deck to the back of the house so we and the dogs could get in and out safely. Tim's team took on the plant relocation (we had some hydrangeas we wanted to move, along with some yews and some hostas) and they were quick, considerate, and meticulous as well. Our experience was terrific from start to finish. Despite weather delays, supply delays due to the pandemic, and coordinating all the different pieces of the proposal, the project took only a few weeks, and we are so very happy with our new deck space. We have probably tripled the amount of usable space in our back yard. Xtra Care did a phenomenal job, and we'll hire them again to address our front yard and driveway area in the future."

"I have used this company before, for a patio at our old house, so when I moved and so I would need a new sidewalk I knew who to call. Derek, the sales person and estimator, arrived right on time and was very professional in suggesting a design for the new sidewalk. He also suggested that we could use some of the existing flagstone to build a pad for our trash cans around the side of the house. they told me they estimated the work would be done at the end of August, but they actually came out two weeks early to do the work. on a hot day, the team worked hard and was very efficient and precise. Mr. Morgado the supervisor was there at the beginning and we discussed and confirmed the work to be done...then he gave clear instructions to the crew. They did a super job, and it looks terrific...attractive and professional. Santos the crew leader confirmed things with me before doing them, like how to handle a tricky step up from the driveway. We are very pleased with the sidewalk and have gotten several compliments on it."

"Alex and the crew were amazing. They are a friendly and professional crew. Mindful of the existing areas, and very quick. They performed the driveway install over a holiday weekend and left our driveway and house looking clean, and professional. They made little changes to the design based on what all we had and how we used the driveway."

"Capital Paving & Sealcoating re-paved out driveway this week - - it is nearly 200 feet long and wide enough for three cars at the garage. They did an excellent job. They showed up on time, kept us informed every step of the way and truly cared about the quality of the work. They gave us an honest assessment of our driveway and pro's and con's of the options. I highly recommend them - - you won't be disappointed!"

Asphalt Driveways questions, answered by experts

For smooth asphalt paving projects in Columbia, timing is key. Schedule work for late spring through early fall when temperatures are consistently above 50°F. Before work begins, call 811 to have underground utility lines marked. Also, plan for alternate parking and access to your home, and inform your neighbors about the upcoming work to minimize disruptions. This proactive planning ensures a more efficient process.

Helpful?

In MD, it's time for new asphalt paving projects when you see widespread "alligator" cracking covering more than a quarter of the surface. Poor drainage, evidenced by standing water after rain, is another major red flag. If your driveway is over 20 years old or shows significant upheaval from mature tree roots, a full replacement is often more cost-effective than repeated repairs.

Helpful?

In Columbia, homeowners should confirm if permits are needed for new or expanded driveways and review local stormwater management rules. Many neighborhoods require HOA approval for driveway paving materials and appearance. Always schedule a utility line check before excavation, and design your project for proper drainage to protect local waterways and comply with tree preservation guidelines common in Columbia communities.

Helpful?

Columbia’s weather—with freeze-thaw cycles, heavy rain, and hot summers—directly impacts asphalt paving. The best time for installation is spring through early fall, when temperatures are consistently above 50°F. Contractors in Columbia use weather-adapted asphalt mixes and emphasize drainage solutions to prevent water damage. Regular sealcoating and prompt crack filling help protect driveways from winter freeze and summer heat, extending pavement lifespan.

Helpful?

To keep your family safe during asphalt paving projects in Columbia, create a clear boundary around the work zone with caution tape to prevent children and pets from wandering into it. Keep windows and doors closed to minimize fumes inside your home. Plan for alternative play areas and pet walking routes, as the new asphalt will remain extremely hot and soft for hours after installation.
