Hello my name is Jason William Hornung. Buying a home is a big investment. I want to help you make a well informed decision. I have been in the residential construction field for 17 years, and have an intimate knowledge of the homes in our area having done so much work in them myself. I stay continuously trained studying current information to give the best reports out there. I've seen many things that other inspectors have missed both as a home inspector and a contractor. My inspections meet or exceed the ASHI standards of practice. WWW.Homeinspector.org/standards WWW.JWHInspections.com

"Tommy, Paul and crew did an excellent job with my radon remediation and installation of a new attic stairs. They tailored the exhaust piping for my radon removal so the only thing that showed was the exhaust vent, which they painted to blend in with the roof. The test results after remediation was only 0.4 pCi/l. The very low results is a testimony for their outstanding work. They were very friendly and accommodating. They always strived to exceed my exceptions, which they did. I highly recommend Atlantic Radon."

"Mr. Benner has been in business for 16 years and he still has the energy of a new business entrepreneur. He was recommended by the radon level testing company we secured to test our newly built home, which was completed in September 2014. Our levels were in the and quot;7and quot; level, only about 2x the level recommended for active remediation. According to Mr. Benner, he has remediated buildings with levels above 100 in the past. He was very professional, knowledgeable, punctual, flexible and informative. I highly recommend Mr. Benner and his company for your radon remediation projects.
He also provided as part of the remediation cost, a radon level detection kit with pre-paid postage to be sent to an evaluation company, the results of which were to be emailed back to me. Essentially, he provided a test-based assurance that his work met the standards he'd specified.

"Very friendly, professional crew from the local area. I got the quote from Peter and had the system installed within a week. Very clean and solid installation. Time will tell how effective it is (still need to wait 48 hours to test the radon levels again) but I'm able to hear the fan through the drain (they covered the grate with a one-way drain) at the opposite corner of the house so it's definitely getting good coverage. No issues at all, I'd recommend them to anyone with either high radon levels or those just trying to reduce the radon levels in their living space!"

"Mark did great work and made the radon abatement system blend well with the house. The office response time was slower than I would have liked, but the price and quality of work was worth the wait. All of the people I interfaced with were extremely helpful and nice. I would highly recommend this company."

If radon is present in your home, you can expect to pay around $1,000 for a radon mitigation system or between $780 and $1,250 in most cases. The exact price will depend on the severity of the radon leak, home size, and the protocol the radon specialist develops to remove radon from your home and keep it out. Your foundation type will also affect your radon mitigation system cost, as unfinished basements will cost about $4,600 to seal and ventilate, while crawl spaces without a foundation slab may need extra encapsulation, costing $1,500 to $15,000.
You can buy DIY radon test kits from a home improvement store and conduct radon testing, but these tests are often inaccurate. No matter the result, you should supplement DIY testing with professional radon detection and analysis. DIYers only have access to passive radon tests, which aren’t as reliable as active tests that professionals use. Plus, it’s very easy for DIYers to make mistakes during testing, leading to inaccurate results. If you’re moving into a new home, have concerns about radon, or are due for an updated test, hire a professional.
Radon testing costs depend on whether you hire a professional radon inspector or DIY test. You can expect to pay $150 to $800 to hire a local radon inspector, and home-testing kits range in price from $15 to $250 from home improvement stores. However, it’s best to trust a professional inspector with this task to ensure accurate results. Plus, if you have radon in your home, your testing company can develop a mitigation protocol to keep you and your family safe from the dangerous gas, so it’s well worth the money to hire a professional.
Yes, radon testing is absolutely necessary if you suspect the presence of this hazardous gas, and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recommends testing for all homes in the country. Radon is a pervasive natural gas that can leak through your home’s foundation and seep into the living areas. Unfortunately, the gas is highly carcinogenic and is the second leading cause of lung cancer. Radon testing is crucial for keeping you and your family safe from harm, so hire a radon mitigation specialist to test your home if you suspect its presence in your home.
In most states, radon testing companies don’t need to be licensed or certified by the state, but the companies that analyze the test results and develop radon mitigation protocols do. You should choose a radon testing company that suits your needs, but before hiring a mitigation specialist, check our state licensing tool to make sure the company is properly certified.
