"J&W did a wonderful job building my brick steps and concrete walk way to the front of my home. A quick quote and a great price considering the current market for bricks and concrete. Mr. Brown went the extra mile and I will be utilizing this company next week to replace the side entrance steps. I highly recommend!"

"I am pleased with the quality of the work done on my retaining wall. My only gripe is that this company does not accept credit cards for the downpayment. As a result, you have to wait longer for the job to be scheduled since they have to receive your check, deposit it, and make sure it doesn't bounce. Since a section of my retaining wall had crumbled, I was eager to have the job done quickly to avoid having a bigger section come off. It all worked out in the end -- I was lucky. Something to think about if your job is time-sensitive."

Excavating questions, answered by experts

Excavation is priced in cubic yards, so you’ll need to find the volume of the area in order to calculate costs. Multiply the length, width, and proposed depth of your excavation site, then convert it into yards to get the volume. Multiply this figure by the price per cubic yard.

Most homeowners can measure by hand to get a rough estimate, even if it’s tedious. You may want to pull out a tape measure or use a string to help mark the area.

Completion time ranges from days to weeks, contingent on project size, environmental conditions, and regulatory approvals.

A mini excavator can dig between 5 and 11 feet deep, depending on the type and size of the mini excavator. Mini hydraulic excavators are more powerful and can reach deeper into the earth, but electric models have a more limited range. Mini excavators over two tons in size are also more powerful and able to dig as deep as 11 feet.

Excavations take a few days or up to a few weeks. The time it takes to excavate an area depends on the size of the area, the type of soil, the type of excavator, and even the time of year, since winter can make digging up the ground more difficult.

Chipmunks dig their burrows about three feet deep and up to 30 feet long. The entrances can be two inches wide or more. Chipmunks are fiercely protective of their burrows and use them to protect the nuts and seeds they gather for the long winters.
