The total project took a few days due to ordering the parts and needing different equipment but everything was done within the week. "Everyone needs a little Terry's Home Repairs in their life. Our oven digital display snapped off and fell through the opening. I talked to an appliance contractor [before finding Terry's Home Repairs] and he indicated that the whole control board would need to be replaced (at a cost of $430). When I asked him if he could provide a refurbished control board or if he can just resecure the existing display back to the opening, his response was "modifications" is not something he would be willing to do. At this point I began doing some research. I located Mr. Terry on Angi's List and after reading reviews and discussing the problem with him over the phone I decided to move forward. He provided an exact time he would be at the home and showed up right on time (on a separate but related note, I am really sick and tired of the 'four hour window' provided by the larger contractors - I am busy as h*** and do not have time to block off four hours of my day). Upon arrival, Mr. Terry identified the issue and provided a new bracket to secure the oven display. While there, he also fixed the exhaust fan (over the range) and also fixed a dryer vent that was coming apart. His price was fair and his work was good. I will be using him moving forward for 'odds and ends' and random things around the home. I like his background (he worked as a mechanic on a cruise ship and also worked in Alaska on HVAC related projects)."

"Only giving 2 stars due to promptness of arrival. My 3 y/o Bosch dishwasher developed a leak resulting in an error and the unit not working as designed. I contacted JB Appliance and they were able to come to my house the same day which was great! The tech arrived on time and was very professional while he was in my home. He took all of 10-15 minutes to diagnose that my dishwasher had a leaking tank. He quickly buttoned everything up and said I would receive a quote to repair in the next day or two. I actually received the quote the same day to the tune of $520(ish) for parts and labor. I then looked up the part to see how much they were marking it up which wasn't that bad. The bad part of this situation when I was searching for the part I came across MANY reviews of the Bosch dishwasher of people who had the exact same issue (cracked plastic nut). They also talked about what the actual issue was. After reading this I decided to buy the part that Bosch upgraded to due to the consistent problem. Part was approximately $9 + shipping. I emailed the rep who sent the quote asking for half of my $120 diagnosis trip fee back because the issue was not correctly diagnosed. I was essentially told no with some not true excuse as to why their recommendation was correct. So I went from a quote of $520(ish) + the $120 already spent to what I actually paid for the repair (approx. $10). Do not recommend because of shady business practices."

Gas dryers heat up more quickly and generate more heat than electric dryers, meaning they dry clothes faster. Using a gas dryer will lower your electricity bill and may even be more gentle on clothing than an electric one.

With proper cleaning and maintenance, most ovens last 15 to 20 years. When it comes to longevity, ovens are one of the more enduring appliances. That's because ovens don't have as many moving parts as other popular large appliances, like dishwashers and washing machines, so they don't wear out as quickly.

When replacing an old unit, you might want to switch from a gas water heater to an electric water heater or vice versa. To do this, you will likely need to add infrastructure to the area. For example, you likely don’t have a gas line that served your old electric water heater. You’d have to call a plumber to put in a new gas line. If you’re replacing a gas unit with an electric one, the plumber will need to safely cap the old gas line. You will then need an electrician to add wiring for the new electric unit.

The best way to tell is if there’s a label, but there are other methods. Gas heaters will have gas lines leading to the unit, with a pilot light near the bottom of the tank (this is sometimes behind a small panel). Electric units often have lights to signal if they’re heating or not and may have electric panels to control the unit. If there is a vent pipe leading from your heater, it’s almost certainly gas-powered.

Most appliance retailers have dedicated installation teams that can tackle the delivery and installation process simultaneously. Unfortunately, just because a retailer sells a specific appliance brand doesn’t mean that its installation technicians are certified by that manufacturer to complete the installation. You could end up with a voided warranty if the installer isn't certified, costing more money down the road. It’s best to find an installer that is certified by your appliance manufacturer, even if it means paying more or dealing with potential scheduling conflicts.
