"Was polite and professional but didn't have the tools needed to properly unclog my underground gutter drain which was clogged with roots. Tried a mechanical auger that he had but that was all he could do and only pulled thin roots which helped but didn't completely unclog the drain."

"Water Field was awesome. This is an old house with many challenges along the way; in other words - this was not a simple hot water heater install. Even with all the challenges, the work was done professionally, and cleanly. I will certainly use Water Field again without hesitation. Quality work, at a very reasonable price!!"

"Placed a request on home adviser and got a call within minutes. Plumber was able to come out within a few hours to give a free estimate. Plumber Ro showed up on time and with face mask, gloves ready to work. Diagnosed the cause of my clogged kitchen sink and had the problem fixed within a half hour. Work area was cleaned after the job was done. Ro also provided some suggestions for avoiding the problem in the future. Great experience! Would use again."

"First company I hired to snake the pipes in my basement did an awful job and it was backed up two days later. Mike from Mahon came out and did the job right. It's been months now and that utility sink doesn't even get damp. Would easily hire again."

Drain Cleaning questions, answered by experts

First, find the cleanout pipe in your yard. Unscrew the cap—you may need a wrench to do so. Then, get a drain snake. You can use a non-motorized one, but a motorized snake will make the job a little easier. Feed the snake through the pipe until it reaches the clog. Spin the snake continuously, but don’t try to feed it through the pipe anymore. Keep spinning until you feel it break the clog apart.

The cost to clean a sewer line is about $370, ranging from about $190 to $550 on average. The specific cleaning method and the problem's severity will impact the project's overall cost. Some of the most common sewer line cleaning methods include:

  • Snaking or rodding: $100–$250

  • Hydrojetting: $350–$600

  • Chemical treatments: $600–$1,000

  • Repair or replacement: $1,000–$7,500

Most blockages can be cleared in 1-3 hours, but severe issues may take longer.

Anything you drop down your sink runs the risk of damaging and clogging your pipes. Hair, bits of food, and other debris can catch on the item and build up over time, causing a clog. Even if it’s not valuable, it’s definitely worth trying to retrieve the item, or at the very least, asking a pro for specific advice.

It takes hair about two years to dissolve on its own in the drain without the use of any tool or help. Fortunately, using a drain snake, plunger, or any of the actions mentioned above to dissolve the hair will help get rid of the clog in as little as 15 minutes.
