Customers say: True professional

"Mr. Smith proved to be a consummate professional and skilled carpenter, as well as patient, friendly, and thorough. His subcontractors, especially the master cabinetmaker, were highly skilled. Once the kitchen was demolished, a leak under the floor was finally identified. Mr. Smith explained the problem and the solution, and his remedy finally corrected a long-standing plumbing problem that had been overlooked by other contractors. We love our new kitchen, and we highly recommend J. L. Smith Repair and Remodeling."

"We’ve hired Teddy from Mr. Handyman several times over the last few years, and we are always super impressed with his work. He is highly skilled at virtually every kind of task, large or small, and always knows how to tailor the job to the particular needs of our house. He’s installed exterior crawl-space doors, caulked around bathroom fixtures, shaved our wooden doors so they’d be able to close again, and replaced door knobs, among other things. And today, he installed new fireplace doors to perfection. He works thoughtfully and carefully, finding the best solution for each issue, protecting the house from any damage (even when carrying large doors through narrow hallways!), and cleaning up after the work is done. Finding a great handyman who you can trust is invaluable, and we look forward to hiring Teddy for any of our future household needs."

"We initially hired Shukhrat and his team to paint the interior of our house. They very extremely efficient and professional. Their quote was also more reasonable than a number of other contractors we interviewed. Eventually they did a number of other projects in the house including putting up wall paper in one room, replacing all the door knobs in the house, putting up shelves, changing out light fixtures, replacing bathroom vanities etc. Shukhrat worked with us extremely well and was very understanding when plans would change. He has become our go-to man for all our projects. He is respectful, honest, hardworking and does great work."

"Homecraft Builders did an AMAZING job on our screened-in porch and we couldn't be happier! Their price was fair (right in the middle of the quotes I received from other companies) and Marc and his crew were really easy to work with. Throughout the course of the project, Marc kept us posted on expectations leading up to our start date and then stayed in constant communication with us during the construction phase. When we needed to make minor tweaks or changes, Marc and the crew were always open to our ideas and continuously stressed that our satisfaction was their goal. Once the project started, they worked everyday (aside from weekends, of course) to get the job done in a timely and efficient manner. The screened-in porch turned out even better than expected and we couldn't be happier with the project. We're out there ALL THE TIME now and get tons of compliments from our neighbors. I'd definitely recommend using Homecraft Builders if you're looking to replace and/or add a new deck or screened-in porch to your backyard!"

Doors questions, answered by experts

In Baltimore, door service maintenance often includes replacing weatherstripping after humid summers, tightening hinges to address rowhouse settling, and applying marine-grade lubricant to hardware before winter. For entry doors, inspect thresholds for water intrusion after heavy Chesapeake Bay storms. Wooden doors in historic neighborhoods benefit from annual sealing to resist moisture, while storm doors should be checked for dents or misalignment after Nor’easter events.

Helpful?

In Baltimore, be cautious if a door repair or installation quote omits details about handling local humidity or fails to specify materials suited for coastal weather. Avoid professionals who don’t mention compliance with historic district guidelines or skip discussing storm-resistant upgrades. Quotes lacking a clear project timeline or warranty, or those that pressure for upfront payment, are also warning signs for homeowners.

Helpful?

Baltimore’s climate, with its humid summers and icy winters, can cause wood doors to swell and metal hardware to corrode. Frequent thunderstorms and occasional Nor’easters mean door seals and thresholds need regular checks for leaks. The best times for door installation or repair are spring and early fall, when temperatures are moderate, helping materials set properly and reducing weather-related delays.

Helpful?

Upgrading doors in Baltimore can boost your home’s value, especially with energy-efficient entry doors that reduce heating and cooling loss. Buyers appreciate storm-rated doors and smart locks, which are increasingly popular in city neighborhoods. In historic districts, using approved materials and styles can enhance curb appeal and attract buyers looking for authenticity, while also potentially lowering insurance premiums due to improved security.

Helpful?

For Baltimore homes, fiberglass entry doors are ideal for resisting warping from humidity, while steel doors with insulated cores offer security and energy efficiency. Composite frames help prevent rot from frequent rain. Opt for weatherstripping rated for Maryland’s temperature swings and use corrosion-resistant hardware to withstand salty air from the Inner Harbor. Impact-rated glass is recommended for added protection during summer storms.
