"Hired Bay State to take out my old bathtub and shower and replace it with a new walk-in shower. Fabio, the installer, and Daniel, his helper, were excellent! Very professional, efficient and took an eye sore of a bathroom and made it a gorgeous place to take a shower in now. From the beginning, everyone I dealt with were friendly, helpful and professional. Jim, the design consultant, helped us decide on what we wanted and how we were going to get it accomplished. The owner, Jen, was helpful in explaining some things we weren't too sure about and the girls in the office, Sarah and Destiny, were pleasant and patient as we had to re-schedule several times for various reasons on our own part. Bay State accomodated us at every turn. It's a rarity these days to find customer service like they have here. It was a bit expensive but you also get what you pay for. The craftsmanship was excellent and the product itself is top notch. It is MADE IN THE USA, also!"

"Master Bathroom Remodel. Last fall we decided to remodel our master bathroom. The original design was implemented in the early 90’s and included a huge jacuzzi tub, but with todays higher cost of living and efforts to conserve our natural resources, it was no longer practical. Also, the small, rectangular bathroom had a jacuzzi tub which was a space robber that sacrificed areas for actual bathroom necessities such as storage and counter space. A full remodel was totally warranted! As a designer, I knew that the floor plan would remain the same for the most part because the plumbing is already there and there are a few electric sockets to move around as well. The shower is small, and kept in place. It will be retiled (with a built-in niche to hold shampoo and soap bottles) with a new door and new shower fixtures. The whole bathroom will be torn out to the studs, and replaced with new cabinets and finishes. I went to a kitchen designer with my ideas to make a conceptual layout and elevations so that I would get measurements of what I wanted as an end product. I had all the materials ordered and ready to go. I now needed someone to implement the job. I get several bids on the project and we settled on Jeff Veglia. He provided us with a competitive price and was very helpful during his first onsite consultation. We found him to be down to earth, friendly, knowledgeable, professional, and receptive to our ideas and needs, so we felt very comfortable choosing him to do the work. From deconstruction to finish, the whole project ran smoothly and on time. The price he quoted us was the price he performed the work for. We are very pleased with the quality of the work. His crew and sub-contractors were friendly, courteous, professional, and very respectful of us and our home; especially during these trying times with Covid issues. All the rough work and finishes were completed with the utmost professionalism, talent and an eye for detail. We felt comfortable in our home with his entire crew. We thoroughly recommend Jeff Veglia and his crew for any project you can dream up! They more than made every effort to have our project turn out as we specified. Jeff was available for every one of our calls and questions. We enjoyed the remodeling experience with this company and we are totally pleased with the results and cost. "Pedros is very professional and did an outstanding job at my six unit rental property. The work involved replacing very old cast iron sewage pipes in the basement that many other plumbers refused to do because of the complexity of the job. The job came out perfect and I will be using him from now on for all my plumbing needs. He is very professional!! I plan on using him for all my rental properties."

"John is the best! We obtained 3-4 quotes for our full bathroom remodel. Everyone else estimated 6+ weeks to remodel the bathroom - which is our only shower. John promised he would have it done in 2 weeks. It was fully complete in 13 days! This was a total remodel down to the studs. Great work, super fast, super responsive, and his cost was right in the middle of the estimates we received. This was in Nov. 2019. Since then we have had John's team back on a number of projects: to replace our fireplace mantle and staircase, and repaint our first floor. He also installed new pantry cabinets in our kitchen and new flooring in our basement. John is now our go to guy for all our home repair needs. He's great - can't recommend high enough!"

Bathtub Replacement questions, answered by experts

Whether converting a tub to a shower is worth it depends on your personal circumstances and priorities. For many, a shower is a safer option that reduces the risk of slip-and-fall accidents, making it a valuable upgrade. It can also be a worthwhile conversion if a shower is more practical for your lifestyle and you rarely use the tub. However, there are potential downsides to consider. The cost, which can range from $1,200 to $8,000, can be a deterrent. Additionally, if you have young children, a bathtub is often easier for bathing them. Finally, removing the only bathtub in a home can potentially lower its resale value in the eyes of some buyers.

The first thing to consider when converting a tub into a shower is whether you’d like to simply change out the tub or undertake a complete bathroom remodel. If you’re unsure, reviewing bathroom remodeling ideas can help you decide whether you’re satisfied with your space or could use a change. From there, decide if you’ll handle the job yourself or hire a pro, and then set a budget.

The reasons not to install flooring underneath a bathtub outweigh the benefits. A properly installed bathtub will keep water from reaching the unprotected subfloor underneath. Installing a tub on top of finished flooring can lead to damage and scratches to the new floor. Also, a small leak from a tub drain may be more difficult to notice if finished flooring impedes water drips.

Installing a drop-in tub yourself is possible, especially if you’re replacing your existing tub with a new one of the same size. If you’re replacing a different type of tub, you’ll need to build the structure to hold the new drop-in tub and finish the exposed sides. The structure must be sturdy enough to hold the tub when it’s filled with water, and you’ll need to seal it. If any plumbing work is required, it’s best to call a licensed plumber who installs bathtubs.

The best bathroom floor tiles are strong enough to withstand the weight of a clawfoot tub. However, professional tile installation is essential. If the tiles are uneven or improperly fixed, they may crack under the pressure. Be careful when installing the tub—if it drops or drags on the tiles, it could easily cause scratches or cracks.
