"Excellent work.  Was refreshing to work with a contractor who did the simple things such as showing up when they said they would, completing work as specified, completing in a timely fashion and communicating all along.  AJ was great to work with and originally came out for drainage work and tying our sump pump discharge into buried PVC pipe to drain in the backyard away from the house.  We were also in process of running a gas line to the house and when asked if they'd be interested in excavating the trench, which was no small task at ~450 ft along driveway and several trees/stumps/rocks, AJ was more than willing to take on the job.  AJ coordinated with the gas company and dug the trench per their specifications and backfilled with sand all within a couple of days.
Once the gas line was installed, AJ and his team completed the drainage work which consisted of tying in sump pump discharge, three gutter downspouts and a yard drainage box to pick up excess surface water at a low spot near driveway.  The discharge was run approximately 100 ft to the rear of our yard and a pop up emitter was installed to keep all water away from the house.  All excavation was backfilled and top soil added and graded with seed and straw laid.  Grass seed began coming up within a week and has filled in nicely.
Throughout the process AJ kept in contact with what was going on and what they would be doing next.  The work was completed faster than we anticipated and the crew kept the site clean each day when they were done.  AJ went out of his way to make sure we were happy with the work and made sure the job was completed to satisfaction including following up with me to make sure we were happy after the job was complete and he had already been paid.  The crew was great, worked hard and put in a full work day and then some everyday.  The were several challenges with this job including a tight work space with many trees, roots and rocks.  The crew took great care to make minimal disturbance to surrounding trees, shrubs, etc.  We were very happy with AJ and crew and would happily use them in the future especially considering the reasonable price.  We even had the neighbors comment on the quality of the work done and how fast the work was completed.

"It went well! I expected it to take a long time to get it picked up, but I called for the bag to be emptied on Friday and they were here Saturday! I am already filling it up again. (We have a MESS from the storm and need to finish the kitchen before this weekend's company coming in from out of town.) I have already called them to request my bag be emptied on Friday, and they have me on the schedule! I can't believe the customer service is so great! This is not a regular dumpster company. I have a dumpster delivered last summer and they gouged my driveway. What a nightmare it was to get them to pay for the driveway to be fixed. NEVER AGAIN! It's BullBag only for our future needs."

"Home FaceLifters was very quick to respond. We had waited so long for another contractor to get back to us that we decided to go ahead and call someone else. They were here the next day to take a look at the basement. They got back to us fairly quickly with a quote and began working within the first couple of days. The crew was here most days at 8 am. They were very courteous and did a great job.  Joe was always available to answer any questions we had, either via phone, email, or in person. They worked pretty quickly and once all the inspections were done, they were able to complete the job. We needed a few light fixtures changed upstairs in the main part of the house and Joe and his crew offered to do it for us while they were here! We got the towel rods, toilet paper holder, etc....and they installed those for us in the new bathroom. Originally, they were not going to use a programmable thermostat, but I asked if they could put one in (I even offered to pay the extra), and they installed one free of charge. They built a big egress window to code with a block well and steps to get out, in case of emergency. It brings in so much more light too! The basement looks great. The painted black ceiling is spectacular....especially with all those lights. They also enclosed the electrical panel and water main, so we don't have to see them. They built a small closet around the sump pump as well. They built a drain to go from the egress window well directly into the pump and made a small hole in the wall (I asked them to) of the sump pump closet that just fits the hose from my dehumidifier, so it too can drain into the sump pump. We also asked if they could insulated the ceiling of the bathroom, as it's just below our bedroom, and they did that as well. They sealed everything up around the pipe openings and vented the new plumbing through our bedroom closet, out the attic and roof.  There was only one small fee above the original quote, and that was due to the fact that the electrician had to add another electrical box. We're very happy with everything!

"Our technician, Dameyan Jackson, called the night before the day of service to let me know the time that he would be here to service our system. On Friday, he called to let me know that he was available to come earlier than scheduled, if I would like. He arrived shortly after the phone call, came in and quickly recognized that the pump had failed. He was very knowledgeable and professional. I was very pleased with his service and look forward to him returning to install a new pump."

"Pacific Stone and Tiles came to measure and showed about 6 choices for granite selection for the offer price. We were working with our own interior designer and we were on FaceTime with her. She nixed the 6 choices so Pacific Stone showed us another granite which was from India and was mostly white with few markings and some reddish-brownish highlights. The effect of this Indian granite was white and it coordinated nicely with our maple cabinets. Our interior designer told us to choose that and we agreed to pay Pacific Stone $1000. more for this granite from India. No name was given for this new granite in writing. When the day of installation came, the old countertop was removed. I did not think to go out and look at the granite in the truck before installation. The installation was done very efficiently and very nicely. However, the countertop did not look like what we were expecting. The color effect was gray with many markings. We were expecting a whitish granite and got gray. I asked to see the original sample that we had been shown when we selected the white granite but they did not have it on the truck. I contacted Pacific Stone and they emailed me a photo of what they said was the granite sample they showed me, but it did not look what they showed me. The granite we got was called moon white on the final bill but it had no name on the original invoice we signed. I made a number of inquiries about the discrepancy between the granite color we expected and what we received. Pacific Stone said there are natural variations in the appearance of each granite variety. However, we paid $1000 more because we thought we were getting the granite color we and our interior designer viewed and chose. I don't think I got the granite we selected and feel I paid $1000 too much. I now have to figure out how to get the granite to coordinate with the maple cabinets as well as regretting that I paid $1000 more than I should have."

Sump Pump Installation questions, answered by experts

A sump pump can be plugged into a regular, 110-volt outlet with three-prong openings, but it must have GFCI protections per the NEC, meaning you’ll need a GFCI outlet and circuit. Sump pumps require two outlet openings, one for the plug to the motor and one for the float switch.

Grinder pumps alone cost $300 on average. The average cost to install a new grinder pump is between $2,000 and $4,000, including the pump and labor. This price can also change based on the exact type of grinder pump you choose, labor costs in your area, and the power system your home currently has.

There are several things you can do to maintain your sump pump and prevent sump pump problems. For instance, keeping a lid on your sump pit goes a long way in protecting your pump system from silt, sand, dirt, and other debris. When water drains from the outside, such as along your foundation, or with melting snow, water runoff often brings sediment with it.

Also be wary of corrosion, particularly if your sump pump system is made of metal. Keep an eye out for rust and have it inspected regularly by a plumber or sump pump technician.

If your sump pump isn’t engaging, it might be clogged with dirt and debris. Check to see if the fitting lid is loose and has been letting debris in. Next, check the float and make sure it’s not obstructed by rust or gunk, which results from insufficient maintenance. Tangled wires or damaged switching systems can also stop your sump pump from engaging.

To test for toilet leaks, use water coloring in the water tank and see if the water slips into the bowl from the tank. This test will indicate if there’s a problem with the flapper or refill tube. You can also put water coloring in the bowl of the toilet to see if there is a leak there. If there is, you should see the colored water on the outside of the toilet bowl or on the floor.
