I have called N.E.T.R. six (6) times in three weeks, and no one has called me back about this issue. Yes, it’s best to turn off an AC unit that’s blowing hot air to prevent system damage and avoid expensive energy bills. If you let the AC continue running, it will put more strain on the condenser coil and compressor. Plus, if the AC is blowing hot air because of a refrigerant leak, it can also lead to a frozen evaporator coil.

Most HVAC surge protectors last about three to five years, depending on how often your home experiences blackouts or brownouts. If your unit is susceptible to more frequent electrical surges, consider replacing your surge protector every two years. Consult your HVAC professional to determine when and how often to replace your HVAC surge protectors.

Most HVAC companies recommend against setting your AC below 70 as it could freeze up the system and cause more problems. Regardless of how hot it is outside, there is generally a 20 degree difference between the outside and inside temperatures, so even if it’s 100 degrees outside, your AC will likely not be able to cool your home to 70 degrees.
