"Tao did an excellent job of re-finishing our floors. We had a move-in deadline, which he was able to meet. Tao was very detailed in explaining what his crew would do, the sequencing of the coats of poly and how long before the floors could be walked on. He also gave us advice on ongoing care of the floors, which was helpful. His crew was friendly and worked hard to help us meet our deadline. They also did a good job cleaning up after themselves. When it comes to linoleum versus laminate, the better choice depends on your personal needs. Linoleum tends to last longer but is more difficult to install. Laminate is less eco-friendly and less durable, but it is easy to install without a professional. 

Both options come in a wide variety of styles, but many prefer the look of laminate. Laminate and linoleum are affordable flooring options compared to hardwood or tile, but laminate costs less at about $0.70 to $2 per square foot.

Installing carpet on stairs involves a lot more cutting, tucking, tack strips, and time. The shape of your staircase, along with the material and construction of the carpet you’re installing, will also increase the cost. Carpet installation on stairs will cost $400 to $800 in total, but it can go as high as $2,500 for difficult staircases, such as wrap-around, upholstered, or spiral staircases.

Many doorways feature two door jambs. These are installed on both sides of a doorway to prevent the door from swinging too far. Door jambs usually stop the door at 180 degrees when closed.  A doorway floor transition sits between the door jambs on the floor, helping to create a safer and more aesthetically pleasing transition from one flooring type to the next. 

The difference between a 40-oz. and 60-oz. carpet is the carpet face weight, meaning the 60-oz. carpet weighs 20 ounces more per square yard. When looking at two similar carpets of the same material and type, the 60-oz. carpet face weight likely indicates higher quality and more durability due to heavier carpet fibers. 

Vinyl and laminate flooring can have a similar life span. Both well-maintained laminate and luxury vinyl flooring can last up to 25 years. The exception is the thinner type of vinyl flooring that comes in sheets and lasts less than 10 years. It’s important to note that vinyl is waterproof, whereas you can ruin laminate if it absorbs too much moisture.
