"Tao did an excellent job of re-finishing our floors. We had a move-in deadline, which he was able to meet. Tao was very detailed in explaining what his crew would do, the sequencing of the coats of poly and how long before the floors could be walked on. He also gave us advice on ongoing care of the floors, which was helpful. His crew was friendly and worked hard to help us meet our deadline. They also did a good job cleaning up after themselves. Highly recommend Tao and his firm."

Customers say: Quick response

"We needed an old oak hardwood floor repaired and refinished in a room and hallway. Phil's team came on time and finished on time. The results are incredible. The floors look brand new. Also, I wanted to note they took the time to clean up the work space after each phase. Phil's quote was one of 3 and was competitive."

"I hired Boston Sunshine Floors to install new floor in a 1 bedroom apartment. The process was very easy from start to finish. They removed old carpeting, leveled the old floor, and then installed new luxury vinyl. They showed up as scheduled and finished the job in one day. Floor looks amazing! I highly recommend Boston Sunshine!!!"

"I had originally wanted to expose and restore the oak floor in the kitchen. When Max arrived he immediately saw that I had a problem. He explained that the tiles and adhesives covering the hidden oak underneath contained asbestos and walked me through the alternative and all the benefits of a floating vinyl plank floor. He is a rare breed - the ultimate gentleman, kind, patient, and so knowledgeable. He is an excellent communicator and very eager to provide you with the best possible experience. He and Rick, a member of the Luxe team, have created a beautiful thing. Rick's attention to the finishing details is outstanding. Did I mention neat and clean? All the leftover stock, packaging, and debris was taken away. The only thing left behind was a lovely new floor. They are flooring "SuperStars" - definitely deserving a 10 star rating if it were possible. I will definitely call Max for any future floor refinishing projects."

Flooring Installation questions, answered by experts

Not all attic floors are created equal—size, layout, and square footage often vary. The amount of weight an attic floor can hold depends on several factors including the joist size and position, any structural supports or subfloors, and the original intent of the attic design. Without structural reinforcement, your floor might only be able to support about 10 pounds per square foot of floor load before collapsing.

Vinyl plank flooring is widely considered to be the best flooring for mobile homes. It’s designed to look like other materials, such as hardwood or stone, for a lower cost. It’s durable, waterproof, and easy to install. Engineered hardwood and laminate flooring are also good options.

Door transitions can work with virtually any flooring type; however, different transition strips lend themselves better to specific flooring types. For instance, if you are bridging the gap between a taller floor, like carpet, to a shorter floor, like hardwood, then you will want a transition strip with a slight slope to bridge the height difference. These transition strips are called reducer molding. On the other hand, if you are bridging two floors of the same height, you can use flat transition strips, such as T-strips and seam binders.

Vinyl and linoleum are the most affordable flooring for a mobile home. The material costs $3 to $7 per square foot—or half as much as hardwood and slightly less than laminate.

Overall, vinyl isn’t as durable as linoleum, but it performs best in areas with high levels of moisture. Luxury vinyl plank (LVP) or luxury flooring tile (LVT) has added durability with just a slightly higher price tag.

While not always required, experts recommend removing baseboards before removing old carpet and installing a new one. This practice leads to a smoother process and a cleaner, more professional-looking finish. Removing the baseboards allows for a seamless carpet installation without the risk of damaging either the carpet or the trim. It also provides a good opportunity to repaint or stain the baseboards and inspect the underlying wall for any issues. If you prefer a quicker option, you can carefully cut the old carpet along the edge of the baseboards, but this may result in a less polished installation for the new carpet.
