"VMA again delivers fabulous service! These are my GO TO folks for electric ANYTHING. They rewired my whole house a couple of years ago. When I called for the new outlet, Lorrayne remembered me and got someone right out to put in the new outlet. 2 friendly gentleman came quickly. They were fast and professional. "The Harland Electric team is extremely professional, courteous, and friendly. Jeremy and Jacob installed a chandelier on an 18ft foyer ceiling using a 15ft A-frame ladder and did so without marking up walls or floor. I have a laundry list of electric work to be doled out and Harland will be my first choice."

"I could not be more pleased with DiMasi Electric. We were having an issue with some outlets in our kitchen. The DiMasi team was super responsive from our initial inquiry through completion of the job. As soon as I explained the issue, they knew how to solve it, and when they arrived exactly on time a few days later, had it fixed in an hour. They were also very upfront about pricing and came in well below the estimate they provided us. DiMasi will be our first call the next time we need electrical help!"

Electrical questions, answered by experts

You can move an electric meter outside if you currently have one inside your home. This is considered a larger move, so be prepared to pay on the upper end of $600 to $1,200. When hiring a professional electrician to move your electric meter, be sure to specify its current location and desired location, including pictures if possible.

Yes—if a breaker is old or damaged, it might not be able to detect power surges or electrical overload. If that happens, the breaker won’t trip. Instead, it will begin to overheat, putting your electrical system at risk of fire or total electrical failure. Circuit breakers don’t last forever, so you can proactively replace old or damaged breakers before they stop working.

Well pumps need power to run, so they can’t function without electricity. If your power shuts off, there can sometimes be enough pressure in the water tank to allow for a lucky flush or a bit of tap water—but this won’t last long. It’s a good idea to have a backup generator or an alternative power source like solar if you’re worried about losing power.

If you need to visually inspect your Christmas lights to determine which are good and which need replacement, there are a few things to look for. First, look for discoloration, such as a dark spot or two on the inside of the glass. The spot is an indication of a burnt filament. Also, look for missing filaments, cracked bulb glass, and broken sockets.

You shouldn’t hook up a solar panel directly to a battery. That can damage the solar battery and your appliances over time. Instead, install a charge controller between your solar panel and solar battery. Charge controllers regulate voltage, prevent overcharging, and minimize the amount of electrical current to protect your battery from voltage spikes.
