"Jacob from Your Neighborhood Locksmith was great with communication. He was prompt to contact me and schedule service. He communicated frequently to provide updates on his ETA. He arrived on time and completed the initial project within an hour and without damaging the door. He was courteous, efficient and flexible, willingly fixing another lock for me when asked. Would definitely work with Jacob from Your Neighborhood Locksmith again."

"PJ arrived 10 minutes before appointment time. He then gave me a price which was much less than I had estimated. He then completed the work and in addition, replaced some rollers and corrected alignment of guide tracks for no additional charge. Morris Doors Inc. is a throwback to a time when honesty and workmanship were important. I can't say enough good words about Morris Doors, Inc. Look no further if you need work done. I would recommend PJ to anyone and I'd use Morris Doors, Inc. again in a heartbeat."

"I  called Dabb's lock in the morning and he said he could come by around 4 to rekey all the locks in my home.  He was right on time and was very professional and nice to deal with.  He was done within about 15 minutes!  He honored my Angie's list coupon.  I was amazed at how good the service was and the price was wonderful.  Whenever I need a locksmith I won't hesitate to call.

"I just moved in to my apartment in Brookline & needed to change my locks. I called Comm Lock & made an appointment to change my locks for Wednesday, the day after we move in. While moving in on Tuesday, we lost the only set of keys we had and locked our selves out. I called Comm Lock & asked them if they could unlock our door. Even though we called at 9:30 Pm, they came over, let us in, & changed the locks on all 3 doors for us and gave us matching keys for all 3 doors. The technician was very pleasant and even gave us ideas on where to eat since we were new to the area. Jolie"

"We bought an Angie's List special for handymen services, and we were assigned Extreme Co. Alex is professional and hard-working, and he knows his stuff. He scoped out the work soon after we called him the first time. We had a little bit of difficulty connecting due to the holiday weekend, but once we did connect, I received excellent service. He provided a reasonable estimate through email. I have some other work outside the house starting this week, and he wasn't sure if he could fit my work in, but he had a free afternoon at the last minute and brought Eduardo with him to do the job. They were both delightful, finished the work in better time than I expected, and cleaned up after themselves. I'd hire them again.

Locksmiths questions, answered by experts

Yes, but adding a deadbolt to some door materials, like steel, may make installation a little bit trickier. For these materials, you will want to hire a locksmith to do the work for you, but be aware that they may charge an additional fee of $25 to $50 or more.

The cost-effectiveness of fixing or replacing a door lock depends on the severity of the issue. Repairing a minor problem, such as loose screws or a need for lubrication, is usually cheaper than replacing the entire lock. However, replacing the lock if it is severely damaged, outdated, or lacks security features may be a better long-term investment. New locks often have improved security features, enhancing your property's safety.

It could be difficult to get in and out of a lock for several reasons, such as the keyhole needing additional lubrication. Particles, debris, and dirt can also get into a lock, making a key stuck (the lubrication can help with the removal).

Using a combination of tools (often store-bought plumbing tools) and brute force, a burglar can easily snap the lock on a door. Snapping a lock aims to gain access to the cylinder inside, which holds the locking mechanism. Once the thief snaps the lock, they can pick the cylinder open and walk right in.

One of the best tools for removing a stripped bolt is a handy pair of locking pliers. Locking pliers can usually grip onto screws with a broken, rounded, or stripped head and lock in place so that you can loosen even the most stubborn bolt that would otherwise remain hopelessly jammed.
