"I took advantage of the offer that Morris doors had for re-keying / changing the locks of two doors.  When he arrived he said that since one of the locks had a lock on the inside and the outside he considered it two locks which seemed odd to me.  I ended up paying more for the service then i expected so this put a sour taste in my mouth.  Otherwise the quality of the work performed was very good.

"Here's the scenario: at 6pm on Saturday we are 500 miles from home visiting our son. We get a call from our cat sitter that the door lock is jammed, and she can't get into the house to feed the cats. We used Google maps to find some locksmiths, but it's Saturday evening, and they're all closed. Then I thought of Angie's List -- I had just joined and it wasn't embedded in my thinking yet. A quick search got us a highly rated locksmith with 24/7 coverage. My call was answered by an answering service which paged the on-call technician. In five minutes, I was speaking to him to set up a time when he and the cat sitter could go to the house. The tech kept me connected throughout the process, calling when he got to the house, again when he got the door open, and again when he had replaced the defective cylinder. Quick, efficient, and reasonably priced. I can't praise the service too highly.

Locksmiths questions, answered by experts

It is best to use a dry lubricant, such as a Teflon-based option, for door locks. Unlike popular oil-based lubricants, dry lubricants leave a non-stick, water-repellent coating that does not attract dust, dirt, and other debris. Using an oil-based lubricant can cause these particles to build up inside the lock, making it difficult to operate or even damaging the internal mechanism. You can find dry lubricants, some of which are made specifically for locks, at most hardware stores.

If part of the key is protruding out of the lock, you can use a pair of needle-nosed pliers or tweezers to gently turn the key in the lock to open the door. If the key is fully inserted into the lock, you may also be able to use a key extractor to help turn the key into the unlocked position.

But if the key breaks off halfway into the lock or you simply can’t reach it to help engage the unlocking mechanisms, you should probably call a professional.

When it comes to how to get a stuck key out of a lock, the simplest way is to use some kind of lubricating substance. One option is to apply graphite powder while wiggling the key gently. As the graphite fills the lock, jiggling should loosen the key enough to allow you to pull it out.

If you’re having an issue turning the key inside a lock, chances are there is dust or dirt buildup within the cylinder. The easiest solution is applying a dry lubricant to the lock, which loosens the dirt buildup. You may need to turn the key a few times for it to work properly again.

It can affect security, especially if you don’t finish it properly. A Dutch door has more moving parts that can be compromised, so you’ll want to use solid hardware and make sure everything lines up and locks cleanly. If the latch is flimsy or the two halves don’t sit tight, it’s going to be easier to force open.
