All very professional and accommodating... Dave explained what he was doing and why. Made me very comfortable with his experience and confidence in his work. "We are beyond pleased with the services provided by Hughes. Their workers were exceptional. They showed up on time, were polite, explained the process as the job progressed, answered all our questions and were extremely respectful of our home. They cleaned up as they went along and were very quiet. This was not an easy job. The slant roof and small space must have made this job all the more challenging because you can't stand up straight. The guys still managed to get it done within the time frame they had committed to and never once complained. The works looks very professional and our home feels so much more comfortable than it was before we insulated."

"I was plagued with recurring ice dams in a few areas of my roof. After investigation, it was discovered that the insulation in a few visible areas was sub-par. Roland came in and quickly spotted the problem areas. He assured me that the could fix these problems immediately. He used a combination of rearranging existing batts, blown-in fiberglass and spray foam to seal the attic space, over the course of two visits. He's extremely personable and always called me back or answered the phone right away."

"I didn't end up insulating my home with Coleman or any other company (in the end I didn't need to) but am leaving a review about their responsiveness and professionalism, which was superb."

"MA Design is my goto for any remodeling work that I need. I have had several projects over the years and have been very satisfied. This year we did reconstruction windows, interior and exterior painting, and transformed dated bookcases. Re-construction/new construction windows can be a challenge for an older home. MA Design worked to level the windows, and ensure sealing. These windows gave my home a facelift. The success and high level of customer satisfaction is a result of our collaboration. We discuss my desired outcome, and review options to achieve the result, and remain in budget. They provide a quote that itemizes the work. We review each item, so that we are on the same page, and I have no assumptions. Some highlights: * Protecting the surrounding interior environment * Trusting - I can leave with peace of mind * Providing recap of each days work * Discussing next day's work activities Great job guys, look forward to next project."

" Sam , the owner, came right out to look at my job. I selected his company based on his professionalism even though he charged more than moist other bids. I liked the fact that he had a lot of Angie's experience and recommendations. A date was made for doing the work and his men were right on time. There was a day of prep and a day of removal. Upon completion of the work, an independent compliance inspector came out and approved the work. The basement was left neat and scrubbed.  "

"I had multiple issues in need of repair/replacement. Front porch, back deck, doors, windows, siding, trim/rake/corner boards, flooring, insulation, drywall, plastering. Tony was always on time, started and stayed on the job to completion and his fee was reasonable. His attention to detail gives the quality of his work an A+. I would absolutely hire him again and highly recommend AJF Construction without reservation."

Insulation questions, answered by experts

Adding insulation to ceilings is an excellent way to increase the energy efficiency of your home. If your home's layout is such that you need insulation in the ceilings rather than in the roof, it's likely that at least some insulation already exists in the space. However, each additional inch of insulation you can add boosts the R-value by between 2.2 and 4.2.

An insulated garage benefits from roof vents to ensure proper ventilation and prevent moisture buildup. Insulation can trap moisture in the garage, especially during temperature fluctuations, and roof vents play a crucial role in expelling the moisture in the air. Including roof vents promotes air circulation, preventing condensation and enhancing overall air quality.

The best type of attic insulation depends on where you live, your budget, and what stage of construction the attic is in. For example, if you're building a house, then structural insulated panels are a worthy investment since they're easy to install during construction and they're the most energy-efficient type of insulation.

Additionally, if you live in a very warm climate, then you can potentially save quite a bit of money by opting for reflective insulation, which is more affordable than comprehensive insulation but doesn't work well for cool climates. Blown-in, loose-fill, and spray foam insulation are all great options for attics in moderate climates.

Not necessarily. A higher R-value simply means that the insulation has a higher heat resistance and performs better in terms of how much heat passes through the material. This can be better for some homes, or it can be too high of an R-value for other homes. Again, your climate zone determines whether the insulation is better for your home.

The cost to install a radiant barrier ranges from $700 to $2,800, depending on the size of your roof and the type you choose. Most people pay an average of $1,700 to install a radiant barrier. Foil options, both single- and double-sided, cost between $0.10 and $0.90 per square foot, while spray-on options start at $0.60 and go all the way up to $1 per square foot—which can add up quickly.
