After my large tree damaged my flat roof(North side), Austin came out quickly, game me a clear and honest estimate, walked me through the process. The crew was professional, on time and worked efficiently while keeping the area clean. The quality of the new roof is excellent. There is a clear difference in the quality of material that they removed and replaced it with. They made a stressful situation much easier, and I am very confident in their work! Had other roofers "fix" the problem area in the past but none made a repair that lasted through but a couple of rain storms. Repair was made by Applehanz crew and since we've had at least 3 good heavy rains without any indication of a leak.Will call on them again if roof work is needed."

Metal roofs can rust, but steel is a material that holds up well to environmental factors, especially if it’s painted or galvanized. Metal roofs do not technically require a drip edge if the roof overhangs at least one inch, because the roof's slant will cause water to flow away from the structure. But a drip edge would be an added level of protection for a metal roof to help keep moisture issues at bay.

Moss grows in dark areas of roofs, including in corners and gutters. If left alone, it can grow under roofing and cause permanent damage. Here’s how to remove moss from metal roofs: 

  • Soak the moss to soften it

  • Scrub it away with a soft-bristled brush, or pick it off with your hands (be sure to wear gloves)

  • Use a moss remover that’s compatible with metal roofing, following the manufacturer’s directions

  • Remove dead moss and rinse the roof thoroughly

  • Prevent future moss growth by trimming branches, cleaning gutters, and attaching zinc strips to moss-prone areas
